Spent the last two seasons as assistant offensive line coach at the University of Florida. He was also with the Browns in the three years before Vrabel was in Cleveland. Replaces Robert Kugler, who went to the Steelers.

Last season, Mike Vrabel said he thought the three offensive line coaches worked well together.

“You try to have a vision for what the staff looks like, or you try to put together a staff with different people, and I would say that that position is – they work really well together,” Vrabel said. “Kugs [Robert Kugler] has a role, and Hoss [Jason Houghtaling] has a role, and Doug. So, I think with protection in the run game, player development, working with guys in all phases, they work extremely well together. That’s a tight group, and I think that just permeates down from those three men to the rest of the players. And so, that’s why that group is tight.”

Decoster is no stranger to the NFL. From 2021-2023, he was on Kevin Stefanski’s staff in Cleveland as the Browns’ offensive quality control coach (2021) and offensive assistant (2022-23). Vrabel has a relationship with Stefanski after working on his staff in 2024.

Decoster comes to the Patriots after spending the last two years with the Gators. Before that he was with the Cleveland Browns in quality control and general offensive assistant roles between 2021 and 2023. Prior to that he coached at the college level at Nevada, West Virginia State, Old Dominion, and LSU - where he played right tackle from 2006 to 2010.

A much needed addition to the coaching staff. I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall. The Oline coaching staff from top to bottom failed in 2025.

With what was available to them, I thought the OL coaches made remarkable strides from 2024 to 2025. Admittedly, this was like doing from a grade of 0 to a grade of 4 out of 10. But it felt like progress was being made.

Doug Marrone did a phenomenal job compared to the guys a few years before did. That said, he’s no Scar since they broke the mold he was made of and there will be only one. The more help we get him, the better I think. So long as it’s needed help and not a baby sitter which I don’t think Decoster is of course.
