Pats front office at the deadline

If Uche can go for peanuts, I wonder why they balked when it came to Osborn.

I was wondering if they had to pay part of his remaining salary to unload him.

Well there is that. However I will not interested in trading any of the names that were floated around except Osborn, Bourne and Twiggy. I would rather not trade away the defensive players that are actually good and who were recently either drafted or extended. But thought they might try and go after someone to help for next year. I guess not. Everything is fine nothing to see here....

Note: How the hell is Baghdad Bob not a GIF? C'mon man!

If they aren’t able to trade him I think they will just release him
They still need to fill roster spots. If they release him who fills his spot riding the bench?

The Krafts have failed to put in place an even minimally competent leadership group for their team. We have lousy coaches and a lousy front office. Not everyone sees the situation in as dismal a light as I do. Fine, but surely we can at least agree that Wolfe ought to be putting his **** in a cardboard box as we speak?

Or Wolf knows Mayos not the guy next season so downstairs want to invest picks in players til he knows that the next regime is looking for?

I guess I like a process and people who are more direct than that. I want guys who are good at football, not guys who a clever when it comes to office ******** and gossip. I don't want a clever GM; I want a competent one.

“Patriots reportedly ‘monitoring’ trade market in hopes of adding to wide receiver spot, among others”

Since the above article was written, a total of 6 receivers were traded prior to the deadline:
  • - Mike Williams (5th Round Pick)
  • - Jonathan Mingo (Player and 7th Round Pick for a 4th Round Pick)
  • - Dionte Johnson (Player and a 6th Round Pick for a 5th Round Pick)
  • - DeAndre Hopkins (5th Round Pick / potential 4th Rounder)
  • - Amari Cooper (Player and 6th Round Pick for a 3rd and 7th round picks)
  • - Davonte Adams (3rd Round Pick or 2nd Rounder if Player becomes an All-Pro)
I believe that with the exception of “Pop” Douglas, each of these receivers are better than any of our current receivers and “Pop” may only exceed Williams and Mingo.

Certainly the cost for each was not overly excessive so I have to wonder if: 1) our front office disagrees and believes the talents of Mssrs Thornton, Polk, Baker, and Osborn exceed these traded players, or 2) deemed that the draft choice(s) used to obtain a player in trade would be more valuable to providing support for D. Maye, or 3) we picked/signed them so “damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead” and we’ll fix it with the draft and “burnin some cash’….

Basically nodoby wanted any of our players.

The thing is wolf doesn't have any say on Mayo's tenure. Mayo reports to ownership not wolf.. Wolf and Mayo collectively are responsible for the roster with Wolf having final say on the roster. That's the set up! Mayo will basically be the last guy touched.

Deadline came and went. We had nothing anybody wanted.. so we are stuck with suck until March 2025.

Ben Brown got exposed, he’s not a starter. If Wolf has done anything right on OL acquisition it was Jacobs… a gift on the waiver wire.

Prioritizing a WR in the 2nd was a horrible idea. He’s a rookie QB, get him vets who run professional routes. Osborne was a smart signing, now they want to trade him so we can watch the worst graded WR in the league in Polk.

The rest of the draft and free agency stink, this is why the line stinks. Simple.

We're talking about Ben Brown as an upgrade over Nick Leverett. He made a seamless transition with one week of practice. Not saying he's the future but that was a nice acquisition in a time of dire need.

They made above market offers to Ayuk and Ridley.

Like Cole Strange in the first round kind of stink or a bunch of Meh misses?

Adams is a big name player who made a stink about not wanting to be in LV and would do the same here. Mingo is a project that's probably an upgrade over Thornton in that project role but not worth giving up a decent day 3 pick for when we have so many JAGs at WR.

Hopkins/Williams/Johnson/Cooper are all on expiring contracts. By all accounts, the point of them "buying" at WR or anywhere else was to add pieces that they'd want to extend. It would cost draft picks vs. waiting until free agency, but for a young player who might get tagged or have enough suitors, it's worth it to get the head start. That's what CHI did last year with Montez Sweat, for example. If they want one of Williams/Johnson/Hopkins/Cooper SOOOOOOOO badly, they can offer them bloated contacts this offseason and keep the picks.

I don't think it makes sense to give up picks to add vets to a team going nowhere. Only scenario "buying" would have made sense, IMO, would have been if someone like Tee Higgins were available and you wanted to give yourself a head start in negotiations and the possibility of using the tag.

Leave apart Boutte and Douglas none of the other wide receivers are untouchables and I think we need 1 or 2 more to stick from the remaining 4 - Bourne, baker, Thornton, Polk. I would play Bourne all 8 games and Thornton, Baker and Polk will each get 5,5 or 6 games. Osborne is not going to be resigned next year. No point playing him unless someone is injured .

Thornton - baker - 3 games.
Thornton - Polk - 3 games.
Polk - baker - 2 games.

Thornton -6
Polk - 5 games
Baker - 5 games.

Let them know it's an audition for a spot next year and they could be cut if they don't perform .

I *thought* the other reason for improving our WR crew & OLine was to provide our newly minted starting QB with some time to throw and some targets to throw to. Doesn’t matter now - lets hope the line csn keep him upright and the receivers improve.

Great points. Ben brown has played well enough loosing a player like Andrews is irreplaceable at that position. I believe brown has a place on the team going forward.

Polk and Baker are not getting cut, unfortunately for me when it comes to Baker. Polk has potential. And proof in point Thorton is still here. But I like where your mindset is at.

My preferred draft strategy at this point. Get the number one, in fact we may outright earn it. Either way trade the top 3 pick and slide down a few slots while picking up a 2nd this year and two firsts for 26 and 27. Hell may do it again for a slot or two down the ladder in the 1st to pick up another 25 second. Pick the best WR on the board. Trade back into the first round with your newly acquired 2nd(s) and grab the best LT on the board. After that pick the best god damn player on the board at every pick irregardless of position. Obviously slide around a bit if it brings in some extra picks along the way.
