Pats front office at the deadline

I don't really have much faith in the youth for next year so I'd rather just put the best out there and not worry about developing youth that won't be good enough anyway...

Yep; as one of the writers - Callahan maybe - said yesterday: This is now more about finding Maye better protection & WRs than it is about "developing" Wallace & Laydown or Polk & Baker.

The clock for taking advantage of Maye's rookie contract has begun; this franchise can no longer show "patience" with ANYBODY.

There's context to this.

1. Let's be real, Jayden Daniels is easily looking like the best QB drafted this year and he's actually in the discussion for MVP right now. He might actually be having the best rookie season we've seen in the modern era. We couldn't get him and it was unrealistic for any team to expect that outcome regardless of who they took. Even Washington didn't think he'd be this.

3. This is going to sound like cop out. But the Commanders schedule has been pretty easy. They beat the Bengals who we beat. The Giants, Panthers and Browns who they played are Patriots level dumpsterfires and as bad or worse than anybody we played. That's 5 wins out of their 7 that the Patriots would have good odds at getting if they played all those teams. You are talking all teams competing for the number 1 overall. Arizona and Chicago are there their only respectable wins and those are still middle of the pack teams that.
Maye has outplayed Daniels on tape by quite a bit. Daniels has been more accurate than he's showed in college but still suffers from random inaccuracies and has a hard time going thru reads. He has only played 1 team that is not below average in pass defense.
Maye has only played 1 team below average in pass defense.
Washington running backs average over 4.5 yards a carry.
Daniels averages 20 throws a game, Maye 37.
Daniels coordinator is just better than AVP.
It's no coincidence Mariota played just as well or better when Daniels went out.

I watched tape of Maye and Daniels back-to-back this week, not that close, Maye is a better player. Daniels has better everything around him.

I predicted at the draft Daniels or Nabers would be ROY and Daniels would have the best rookie season of any QB.
That's all coming true but doesn't change the facts on which QB is a better QB in the long run. It's Maye.

Another sleep walk by wolf... guess he's happ with marco pass interference Wilson opposite gonzo.. ugh..

We shouldn't spend premium draft picks on defensive players anyway; our resources should be focused on finding better protection & WRs for our rookie QB.

Agree but we also don’t want to have our defense give up high 20’s low 30s a game. I’m 41 I can’t take another Dave Kreig or Jay Fiedler ripping our d apart.

Most of the draft bust and FA cast offs we signed won't be here next season anyway. I'd like to to at least trade for a player they plan on reupping to be part of the build back

Agreed and Washington just selected a CB last season with thier first round pick or was it 2023? So guess he's bust.

That was the beanpole Manny Forbes, in 2023, taken by the previous administration Ahead of Gonzo...which is why they are the Previous administration... And yes he looks like a Bust.

Do you want the worst defense in the nfl?

Teams giving up draft capital for a year yet 1 of these teams from each conference is highly likely making the Super Bowl:

Chiefs, Bills Ravens
49ers, Lions, Vikings, Packers, Eagles

Other teams are overestimating their chances IMO and just wasting draft capital.

The Pats have endless resources, limitless... they also have a QB on a rookie deal.

They shouldn't go cheap anywhere, but they should also learn how to evaluate talent so next year's free agent and draft class don't look as abominable as this one does. They also don't need that many starters, but they didn't this season either.

Wolf isn't good at his job, we're very likely doomed unless he improves at it.

There's always next year's free agency period & draft for that. I would also hold tryouts at all of our positions of need for the rest of this season and ****-can the dregs of this roster.

If a trade is to be made in which we are the Buyers, then it should be only for an OLman and/or a WR, under 30, with either term remaining on their contracts or at a discounted rate.

I'll give him kudos for trading Judon and acquiring Ben Brown under the circumstances.

Resigning Henry, Barmore, Onwenu, Stevenson, Dugger and Peppers were good moves too.

I don't think we can fault Wolf for Pepper's off the field issues.

Chucks was a flat out miss in FA and can't defend that, but he was a low dollar signing and there were some contingencies (albeit less than solid) in place.

For the most part I understand his strategy in the 2024 draft.

Round 1: Maye was a no brainer. Anybody who still thinks we should have passed on Maye at pick 3 is fooling themselves.
  • Round 2: Prioritizing getting Maye a weapon, especially given the depth at WR in the draft was a good idea, Unfortunately Polk has made a significant regression that is counter to what was more or less a consensus on his positives - hands and character. (I know separation is an issue too). Legit to question if OT Paul or Suamatia were the more prudent picks in round 2, but neither one of them has proven to be legit NFL starter caliber as of yet.

  • Round 3: Given the run at OT, I think Wallace was the next best off the board and a worthy pick in round 3. Wallace has a long way to go. May never have the chops for LT and it remains to see if he's an NFL worthy RT. His pass pro needs serious work. Its worth noting though that very few college offensive line players can come into the NFL these days and be solid in year 1. Lack of contact practices in the NFL is delaying development.

  • Round 4: If Robinson doesn't develop this will be disappointing and calls into question Wolf's strategy. We've invested so heavily at the OG (Strange, Sow, Robinson) position with so little in return definitely worth a second guess with a 4th round pick given other positional needs.
Round 4: Baker is a potential WR play maker with upside. Worth a 4th round gamble

Round 6: Dial - not bad being a special teams contributor as a rookie 6th round pick

Round 6: Milton - worth it for preseason entertainment value alone.

Feel free to disagree.

It'll be awkward when the Pats don't make any trades and guys like Osborn find they're just stuck here. Lol
