Exactly. I cant say whether Starks would have been a great CB if he was actually healthy but he played injured, how do you expect him not to get burned here and there, trying to keep up with very quick wide recievers. He certainly would have been BETTER if he were not injured, not saying he'd have become a superstar but I just dont think he's as bad as people say after this year.

"how do you expect him not to get burned here and there, "

Here and there? How about every friggin time he stepped on the field!!??? If he was playing HURT like you insist......then WHO'S fault is that?? BB? Seriously, I know we were getting thin there.....but why the heck put a guy in that is going to get torched on every down???? AND.....if you are that player.....wouldn't you think he would have said "COACH....I CAN'T GO..."????

If someone is that hurt that they can't even come close to doing the job that they are supposed to on the field....then get a healthy body off the PS...or sign somebody.........Starks for whatever reason.....was a BUST.....

This is truly a glorious day...

"just sing or drfat a CB"

Hey man....are you dyslexic or what??????

Only kidding.......

The absolute worst offseason under "B"...a whole offseason of braincramps and bad luck. While "B" is at it...there's a certian LB who can get on that same bus out of town...98 LB weakling.

The guy was a bust the day he took the field in camp. Watched a lot of practice last year. The guy was getting torched consistantly throughout camp.

Damn...who else can we rely on now to give up the big play?

I'm bummed.

I still wonder if the Pats and Cardinals knew the severity of Starks' injury before the trade. If we went by assurances from the Cardinals the Pats ought to be trying to re-claim the pick.
Whether the Cards knew the severity of Stark's injury or not is a good question. My suspicion is that Starks knew, and his agent, Drew Rosehaus, as well. His release is the best roster move the Pats could make at this time, IMO.

Lord I hope this is true.

The PFT article said something interesting though.
Miguel this is for you.

FWIW- There was nothing cap-related in that article that has not been in my cap pages since the Patriots traded for Starks. From my footnotes page - "Duane Starks said that his Patriots contract had the same amount of new money as did the Cardinals ($7.2 million). Let's take him at his word. His 2005 salary is $540,000 while his 2006 salary is scheduled to be $3,600,000 (same as his Cardinals contract). That would mean that he received from the Patriots a $3,060,000 signing bonus. The bonus proration is $1,530,000 a year making his 2005 cap number $2,070,000 and his 2006 cap number $5,130,000.
August 31, 2005 update-
http://www.nflpa.org/PDFs/Shared/20...alary_Averages_&_Salary_Trends_April_2005.pdf
One NFLPA.Org research document implies that Starks was telling the truth. Page 11 of the document says that at the time of the report (April,2005) the largest signing bonus that the Patriots gave to a player in 2005 was $3,060,000. Divide that number by 2 and you get $1,530,000.

Am I seeing the words great and superstar mentioned in the paragraph with Duane Starks?

Starks played hurt... I don't understand why everyone feels the need to trash him. It didn't work out, but it's just one of those things.

There are plenty of players in the NFL who play hurt every week, some even play quite well even though they are injured. Do you think every player gets through 16 games without a scratch?

An example would be Rodney Harrison who played virtually his entire final season in SD with a severly torn groin muscle. Think that wasn't like 100 times more painful than Starks' shoulder boo-boo?

Starks didn't get torched on every down. If you had watched the games, you'd have seen that Starks was playing his zone to the best of his responsibility and the times that there were the deep passes, BOTH safeties left the middle of the field wide open to take the receivers on the sidelines.

Also, STC, it would seem that you've never played a sport. Guys want to play no matter what, unless its a physical impossibility. Starks was doing what he could for as long as he could.

Yes, BB should have made that decision earlier than he did. Or Mangini should have. The coaches are as much to blame as Starks. Just like I blame BB for the situation at ILB. How would they NOT KNOW that Johnson had Post Concussion Syndrome and wouldn't be cleared to play? Why did they wait until the last minute to make a decision on him?

Obviously you are clueless as to how a shoulder injury as bad as Starks injury is reported to have been would affect a player. But, thats ok, the clueless need to blame someone other than BB for the failures of the team.

I agree. Plus, he missed all of training camp. It's easy to have 20/20 hindsight, but I can't say that Starks was a bad pickup at the time. Didn't work out last year and the size of his contract makes it impossible to give him another shot.

Like they say back home, "Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you."

Ok, so there are some in here who say starks was a complete bust, then there are others who say it was because he played hurt

personally i think it was more towards the bust end of the spectrum

BUT, either way, what it boils down to is: we have a chance to be a better team with no starks and $3.6 million extra in cap space, than with starks and not have that 3.6 mill

when i saw the news a big smile lit up my face
