Stevie Johnson (hoping he matures and stays focused). The man torched Revis Island.

edit: Manningham and Meacham as well.

We could have had any of those guys in stead of Merriweather four year ago.
Darolyn72: I like your selections but definitely *Meacham* over Colston way more *speed* which we are lacking.

Stevie Johnson sux. Watch another game besides the Pats once in awhile. He dropped a TD to lose the Steelers game last year. He single-handley lost the Jets game with a penalty and two dropped TD's.
You must have missed this part,

(hoping he matures and stays focused)

here it is again incased you missed it a second time.

(hoping he matures and stays focused)

one more so you truly understand.

(hoping he matures and stays focused)

all of his problems are fixable and he was in position to make the play but lost focus.

Manningham would be a great fit for the Patriots as well. I thought for sure the Giants would lock him up but with the way Victor Cruz has been playing I could see the Giants letting him walk and go with Nicks and Cruz. BTW I wanted the Patriots to draft Hakeem Nicks when he was available and they blew that too.

Reggie Wayne (i doubt he'd come here)

Mario Manningham (I think he's an FA)

I think ReggieWayne would play for BillB.. Didnt you hear that BillB went looking for ReggieWayne after the game was over, Sunday?

ReggieWayne probably wont be resigned by Colts, or he leaves when Manning leaves..

He will be 34 yrs old next year. But, he is very smart, and an excellent router runner...

I'd sign him for 1-2yrs..

Robert Mathis, would be an upgrade. Carter and Anderson are both free agents, if all three are signed it is a nice little rotation.

I would believe they resign Carter. Maybe Anderson.

Mathis is $$$, not sure if BillB will pay..

If we raid the Colts, get Mathis & Wayne.

If you're going to start a thread do some homework. FIRST of all, they CHEAPED out on Goldson, they had him here, worked him out and let him leave after offering him a crappy contract. Then they cut both their safties. And yesterday they had Matthew Slater there. The FA crop is great, but the "Genius" won't pursue, anyone, he's so smart. Funny, he could have gone after Crennel, maybe Crennel was the reason the defense was good 2001-2004. Bill has gone Howard Hughes. Just trying to cuter and cuter on defense. Meanwhile, he has had one of the worst defenses in the NFL for two years now. Here are guys that should be on the radar. Doubtful they sign one.

Free Agents the Patriots should look at

1 Mario Williams DE Houston
2 Cortland Finnegan CB Green Bay
3 Wes Welker WR New England
4 Cliff Avril DE Lions
5 Brent Grimes CB Falcons
6 LaRon Landry S Redskins
7 Marques Colston WR Saints
8 Terrell Thomas CB Giants
9 Michael Griffin S Titans
10 Brandon Lloyd WR Rams
11 Lardarius Webb CB Ravens
12 Carlos Rogers CB 49'ers
13 Matt Roth DE Jaguars
14 Chris Hope S Titans
15 Anthony Spencer LB Cowboys
16 Bradie James LB Cowboys
17 Mario Manningham WR Giants
18 Barrett Ruud LB Bucs
19 Kroy Biermann DE Falcons
20 Israel Idonije DT Bears

I like the Welker kid. Kinda short, but probably ok... =)

3. Matt Forte, RB- They probably wouldn't have the money to go after Forte but if they are not comfortable with Vereen, Ridley or Woodhead then I could see them making a push for Forte. Green-Ellis will not be back, he'll ask for more than the Patriots think he's worth and if they're gonna spend that money on any free agent running back, it would be Forte, not Green-Ellis.

just to re-open the BJGE discussion. I think you undervalue BB's appreciation for ball security and over-value BJGE's desire to get a big contract.

I also dont think that many other teams really have him on their radar as a top fa acquisition. He isn't seen as a home-run hitter RB, but more of a plodder. He doesnt get much national pub (espn highlights) and his yardage total in a pass happy offense isn't enough to make anyone go wow.

How about Branch? Our troubles bringing in WR's have been well documented on this board so why not keep the guy who's on pace for 64 / 886 / 5. That's damn good production for option 3 (maybe 4 tough to say) in any passing game.

I'd love Forte here. Allows us to take the hurry up to another level. You can go 5 wide or power running formation with the same 5 skill players on the field. It wouldn't be fair. Assuming he's healthy of course.

Also like CB Cortland Finnegan of TENN. Given McCourty's soph slump, Dowling being an unknown going into next year and the amount of time we spend in the nickle we need to add a CB somehow. Would rather get a known quantity than draft another one. He'd also bring a bit of an edge to the defense. Remember how Rodney was always voted one of the league's "dirtiest players", for better or for worse so is Finnegan.
