TRADES:

- Patriots dealt a 4th round pick (#137) to Indy for TE Dwayne Allen and Indy's 6th round pick (#200).

- Patriots dealt a 2nd round pick (#64) to Carolina for DE Kony Ealy and Carolina's 3rd round pick (#72).

- Patriots dealt a 1st round pick (#32) and a 3rd round pick (#103) to New Orleans for WR Brandin Cooks and New Orleans' 4th round pick (#118).

So adding it all up...

Pats give: #32, #64, #103, #137
Pats get: #72, #118, #200, TE Allen, DE Ealy, WR Cooks

That #118 pick from New Orleans will be forfeited because of the ridiculous Deflategate penalty.

SIGNINGS:
- Patriots signed CB Stephon Gilmore.

- Patriots re-signed S Duron Harmon.

- Patriots re-signed DT Alan Branch.

- Patriots re-signed TE Michael Williams.

- Patriots re-signed FB James Develin.

- TE Martellus Bennett signed with Green Bay.

- CB Logan Ryan signed with Tennessee.

- LB Barkevious Mingo signed with Indianapolis.

- DE Jabaal Sheard signed with Indianapolis.

Still lots of work to do. Still over $30 million in cap space. Re-sign Hightower please. Then get a long-term deal for Butler done. Either sign Blount or sign a replacement. Trade JG to Cleveland for a 1st in 2017 (#12), a 2nd in 2018, and a 3rd in 2018. Restock the draft shelves. Use the 2nd rounder in 2018 to draft the heir to Brady (if Brissett isn't him).

Looked at another way, entering Day Three of Free Agency, BB has acquired ...

- WR Brandin Cooks (25) for two years at $5M APY, hypothetically to replace Amendola (32) at 1yr/$7.5M.
- DE Kony Ealy (25) for one year at $900k, to replace Jabaal Sheard (28) at 3 years/$8.5M APY.
- TE Dwayne Allen (27) for 3 years at $5.8M APY to replace Bennett (30) at $7M APY.
- CB Stephon Gilmore to replace Logan Ryan.

He's gotten the Nickel Safety and NT positions and basic depth covered with re-signings of in-house free agents.

And he still has roughly $39M of $61M in cap space left for 2017.

Even after resolving the Hightower situation, the Pats may be able to carry over as much as $25M-$30M in cap space into 2018, probably enough to franchise Garoppolo.

-----
Net 2017 draft pick change ..

Gave up #32 and #64
Acquired the #72 for the #103.
Acquired the #118 for the #137.
Added the #199.

The Pats biggest remaining needs, pending Hightower, seem to be DE and "lead RB" (IMHO). This is a very deep draft at both positions, and BB typically doesn't select the flashy "hot rod" types that other teams go nuts over, so the prospects he prefers for those spots will likely be available later, anyway.

Meanwhile, the Titans have the #5 and #18 pick in the draft. There's still a slim possibility that they make an offer for Butler that would give the Pats the #18 pick (which could then be trade for a later 1st and a 2nd or 3rd). The Titans have until April 21st to make such an offer (the deadline for Butler to sign his RFA tender).

Personally I'd rather they NOT trade Butler. I like the idea of having him and Gilmore paired together.

While they should lose #118 to the Deflategate Penalty, they should receive back #132 which was Seattle's 4th round pick. This is the pick that was listed as forfeited on the NFL Website..
