PATRIOTS TRAINING CAMP Patriots Training Camp 8-8-2023

Exactly. Things changed when they lost a preseason game. Used to be week 4 of preseason games was tuneup for opener, weeks 2 & 3 were evaluation, and ideal for joint practices, week 1 was just establishing tempo and beginning the cutdown evaluations. Vets and starters would play a little more each week to work into being ready for the opener. Now everything is compressed into three games, so evaluation time is more precious and joint practices provide additional data.
I thought week 3 was the dress rehearsal. Week 4 was for the bubble players - I remember Tebow played a lot of the week 4 game and that was his last game as a Patriot.

I'll agree.. however I'm just pointing out our needs are more glaring on the offensive line. Of course BB knows this. So we'll see how it goes going forward..
Needs may be more glaring, but are solutions really to be found?

I’m seeing a lot of posts saying other teams are also in need of OL help. So any OL player that could really help is already signed somewhere. The guys who are available are available because nobody wants them. Do you really think we should stop improving other areas while trying to find OL improvement? If it were easy Bill would’ve done it before you posted about it.

.. can always pick up guys to help out at on the D line there is always someone on the O line that can help. At this point availability is the best ability
orly?

agree that availability is the best ability. But is what’s available on the market better than what we have already on the roster?

The only solution to the Patriots offensive line woes would be for Kraft and Belichick to miraculously get the NFL to make a rule change this month allowing offensive linemen to tackle defensive linemen.

I always get this wrong and I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast but I think all starters sit the last preseason game to rest and avoid injury.

Context is important and stats rarely show that. A trained eye helps a lot to evaluate...agreed.
Agreed, that's what all great coaches use to gadge thier players. The eye test it's something that very rarely gets brought up. Like for example take the Chiefs offense.. the trained eye will tell you they ran the patriots Brady offense last season. That style of offense frustrated the eagles as they wanted to be aggressive on defense. Is how we won for years!

It was done occasionally in the old days but it was Belichick who started the modern trend. Coaches and players raved about how great they were and everyone started copying the Patriots.
That's how I remembered it... Bill's former assistants were getting their own HC jobs, so the familiarity was there as was the similarity with which they conducted practices etc...

They're more helpful for the 2nd and 3rd preseason games than the 1st. By then your own players are tired of going against each other and practices aren't being maximized because both offense and defense knows exactly what the other is doing. Going vs. a different team always rejuvenates everyone and gives you a better gauge of exactly where you are.

Still a little surprised they didn't have one of those in Foxborough this week, given the Bill-Nick connection.

Your right ✅️, I just feel like the team did the right thing in addressing the O line needs, hiring Klemm. But From reports Reiff hasn't worked out like they hoped however I believe he'll be here because we need him and his guranteed $ . So I'm thinking LT Brown, LG Strange C Andrews RG Sow ( In ownenu absence) McDermott at RT.

I believe that's our starting 5.. we just need to get through these 3 preseason games HEALTHY. Other than Yodnuy I'm not sure who's available at RG or RT that is a mauler unless we traded for someone.

Training Camp.. with all the new rules, policies in place. Teams can't tackle to the ground.. can't hit the QB.. it pretty much takes the physicality out. I just want out main guys to sit out and let the unproven players get run. It's all about week 1!
Agree, folks take these Training Camps too seriously. Thats why it takes a Month of Football to get up real speed. For me it Training season starts after 2 preseason game, to 2nd week of season. Playing against each other, gets counter-productive after awhile. Got to hit, and hit with anger for real football. Now just a step up from Flag Football.

Youre way off here. @Real fan 02 is one of the most optimistic posters on this board.
Try knowing your facts before you attempt to "scold" somebody
LOL true but when you are overrun by trolls it can be Broken Arrow time

Agreed. Unfortunately there isn't a PatsFans poster with a "trained eye", so we give and get "untrained eye" comments.

Absolutely, the CTE cover up by the NFL is what led the rule change with practice, camp ect. Prior to these days camps were brutal.. guys actually lost thier lives in training camp.. Corey stringer for example. But your absolutely right.. pre season leads all the way into week 2. I'll say this though. It's important for us to get out to an early start becuase I'd rather catch the eagles week 1 then any other point in the season.

Korey Stringer died of heat stroke brought on partially by Ephedra in the "supplements" he was taking. That being said, his death is a tragedy that teams learned from before the lawsuits were settled. Teams are much more cognizant of heat exhaustion and heat stroke than they were previously.

I don't know of another football player who died during training camp, but would welcome any sort of information.

Bring it inside put the Pads on and hit. If worried about heatstroke. This is 2023 not 1970. You build things to neutralize nature.
Contact football is the sport we love.
The thing here is that no one is debating is the new CBA about Training Camps, the thing is this is not what folks should be evaluating anybody at this point. Contact changes everything, and players.
Relax- don't take the NE media too seriously now. 99% of the folks here are better evaluators then a Georgetown Graduate Phil Perry.

VERY Astute observation, the best time to catch the Eagles is week #1, and a good bet. Good Post.
More thought: Because all these teams probably are discombobulated, because all Camps are in same shoes. works to a Great Coach like Belichick's favor. He prepares for all short comings. This is a good bet 5 at home with Brady in the house. I can see the Pats blowing doors in.

Highly agreed! Due to the absolute dominant teams in the AFC.. we are going to need to take games.. capitalize off teams mistakes and cash in. The schedule is very tough.. however our own division is tough. We just need to stack up as many wins as possible to out ourselves in position for later in the season. I feel good about this team

More glaring according to whom? Are they actual needs or just wants?

90 roster spots in camp with depth at EVERY position fighting it out for a shot at the 53 or the PS. For many of these guys, there is zero data of real NFL game reps to make any evaluation on whether or not what is actually on that 90 man roster NEEDS to be replaced - because that's what's being discussed here is replacing existing people in camp with those not in camp.

The last couple roster spots tend to be for rotating guys in for looks and/or for filling time during preseason. That is the most likely scenario for Flowers or he could be a depth signing for competition purposes meaning one of the young DEs like Jennings, Perkins, or Mitchell just got put on notice to step up in the preseason and show out. Or it might be BB is the terrible GM everyone says he is and he was signed simply for nostalgia (I'm kidding).

But I get it I suppose...there's the glimmer of hope that BB will replicate the Ted Washington like trade to use the last roster spot(s) or sign the "big name" to placate fandom rather than continue development of one of the draft picks or have additional special teams depth which we know everyone hates until the Bills run back two kickoffs in a game because the STs specialists were injured.
