Wow shells for a week C'mon Mayo they don't play in shells.
You say this kind of thing without researching it. First padded practice came in a similar timeframe to last year and past years. First padded practice in 2023 was in August, and it was the same day that Cole Strange suffered his initial knee injury.

I'd let the Mayo thing go and focus on what's going on in camp on a day-to-day basis and move on.

My bad I thought they were always a little closer together.

There are also strict guidelines on when teams can hold padded practices, including a five day "acclimation period" at the start of training camp. Monday is the first day they are allowed to hold a padded practice:

Both (esp. Pep) players are every bit as fast as McCourty. It's not that. McCourty could play CB, his mental acuity and other skills made him a very good FS.

Edit: what I think Pep and Dug bring to the third level is being able to separate the receiver from the ball with some big hits but they have to get there in time. That's tough to do nowadays but it should scare some receivers.
WOW. I had no idea Pep was that fast. NO IDEA! Holy heck. 10.55 sec 100m into a 0.9 headwind in HS. As you inferred, though, it's what's upstairs that brings greatness.

The Deep ball was missing from our Offense never had a QB that could get it there until now.
Both Mac and Zap got it over 50 air yds to receivers, but they were dropped (with Reagor being one of the offenders). Inconsistent line led to attempts that never were and add unlucky drops to that. What a poop show it's been recently. Hope springs eternal.

Reagor hauled in a one-handed grab today from Maye of 50+(the one on the right)

I went today.

I thought Reagor and JJ were the standouts today. Reagor had a couple of deep catches one from a very nicely thrown ball by Maye the other I believe was from Zappe.

JJ deflected the Brissett pass that wound up in Duggers hands for an INT. And he had another pass breakup. He got a few reps in at FS for those interested in that. But I would say it looked like Gonzo and JJ were your 2 outside starters and Marcus was first up in the slot.

Hooper probably had the next best day catching a couple of passes over the middle.

Not necessarily standout plays but Polk had a couple catches and Juju, Baker and Thornton had at least one each.

The last thing I will mention and it's probably not fair to compare it yet because of no pads but I think there was a clear difference in how much work they got done under Bill compared to today. I will wait until I see a padded practice before really comparing it though.

I think Mayo will rely on a good amount of Mental and VR reps to replace the physical grind Bill put them thru. Yes it’s great to have that toughness and resiliency of getting after it. But players aren’t built like they were in the Dynasty years.
New times at Gillette.

I just posted a thing for this morning, but here are a couple of good bits from Jonathan Jones from his press conference yesterday:

As for Jones, he was asked where we might see him play on defense this season, and the veteran said that he's open to wherever they need him to play. “Like every year, just wherever they need me," said Jones. "I enjoy playing football, whether it’s inside, outside, safety. I’ve done it all here in my career here, and I’m just enjoying playing where the team needs me. I’m prepared to play there.”

Jones made an interesting comment Tuesday when it comes to the fact they haven't had a true free safety since the retirement of Devin McCourty. Jones pointed out the benefit of not necessarily having a guy who plays there exclusively allows them to disguise their coverages. “I don’t know. I mean, we have a lot of good safeties," said Jones when asked if the team needs to have a true free safety. "I think the good thing between Pep [Jabril Peppers] and Doug [Kyle Dugger] is you don’t know who is where, what. They can kind of disguise a little bit more who’s going to line up at free, who’s going to line up at strong. But it’s always good to have a guy like Devin, who’s back there as a general manager of the defense and kind of coaching and getting guys lined up. I wouldn’t say you need it, but it’s always good to have a guy like that. ”

I just finished posting a reply to that second quote in the other thread! Feel free to merge with this one...

I want this dude to make it so bad yo... He has both Center & Guard experience, and also has the physical & athletic attributes of an Offensive Tackle... Don't know why it hasn't clicked for him anywhere else before now, but if he puts it together here, he would make all of Fat Tony, Leverett Saltonstall & Jake the Latest Fake obsolete.

Seven days? For how long has that been going?
Its actually 6 days. 5 Days of acclimation period starting from when vets report (yesterday), plus one day of rest. They can (and will) practice with pads on the 7th day, which is Monday.
