Patriots to meet with Nick Fairley

The fans don't matter in this. The coaches and GMs all watch all the films of all the games. They are the ones with the say-so and the only ones that count. In fact, if he did well (not great) on a poor team, then that rates better than doing the same on a good team because they factor in that he didn't have much help or that he may have been double-teamed.
Yeah, I was mostly joking around but I think the level of the team does factor in. Good explanation however.

One has to wonder, if you take a one year "prove it" deal, and you do well, but it's on a team no one watches, have you proven anything? Certainly not to the fans, lol.
Exactly. We've seen time and time again mediocre players who perform well on the big stages for good teams make serious coin.

Former Lions and Rams DT Nick Fairley is scheduled to meet with New England Patriots

Interesting there has been no news since this was first reported, hoping we hear something later today!!!

I think what would happen if they liked him would be for Fairley to meet with BB, Bob, maybe Jonathan and not sure if Caserio is there and if all goes well they fly him up to Foxboro or administer a physical right there in Boca. In parallel his agent and the Pats talk turkey. I'm sure they discussed basic framework of a deal prior to Fairley getting on a plane and if all went well hammer out the specifics. There could be some give and take on guaranteed $, etc. Typical negotiation stuff....

They had interest and likely discussions with Fairley's rep last year. He has the same agent as Lafell and Nate Washington, who had a visit with the Pats earlier in this FA period. I would think both sides know what it would take to get a deal done.

Well i have not heard of him leaving or visiting some other team. Is he still in house?

If so that is a pretty long time to be in the area and not sign a guy. Just my 2 cents.

They were supposed to meet at the owners meetings in FL, not Foxborough.

The visit is happening at the owners meetings so there is no clue when or if it has even taken place yet. But if he flew to the meetings to talk to the Pats then he is meeting with Belichick.

For all we know they could be somewhere trying to hammer out a mutli-year deal or they talked for an hour and Fairley priced himself out of the Pats range.

We may not even have heard about Fairley meeting with the Pats if some Rams beat writer didn't see Fairley on the plane

I usually doubt that a player signs if they have visited a few days ago. Maybe fairley will wait until after the draft

Yeah, the only one of whom I can think, off the top of my head, is Tarell Brown.

Fairley is a good run-stuffer. Patriots did not do very well against the run.

Are we forgetting Vellano?

Our d-line is going to be weaker than last year's if we don't find a Hicks/Chandler replacement soon

Need to bring in Henry Melton now.

I guess New England is not for everyone
Not only are the Pats demanding in the work and dedication they require from the players, their standards when it comes to the media and social media are more strict too. There's a lot of young millionaires who've been coddled since high school that, when given a choice, will choose an easier path. That said, hard working veterans who are seeking a ring often take less money to play for the Pats.
