Stats speak for themselves:

Henry 15 receptions, 1TD, Salary 10 Million
Jonnu Smith 13 receptions 0TD, Salary 8.3 million

There must be a way to get these guys more involved in the offense. It seems like they are rarely targeted and so defenses do not give them a second thought. I had thought that these 2 would be nice safety valves for Mac....
Did Bill really sign them to generous contracts to be blocking all the time?

It's Mac Moon ball Jones who can't find them I'm convinced. He doesn't see the field well either. His first read Meyers second Rham then takes off or gets sacked. Penny Mac is easy to game plan against his team don't win because of him it wins in spite of him.

I just happened to look at patscap 2023

Jonnu Smith is our highest paid player next year at 17.4 million & Henry is our third highest at 15.5 million.

Both of these guys salary are 5 million plus more than every player other than Judon.

Almost 33 million for Smith & Henry
What a waist of resources

We should not draft a TE nor sign the highest paid ones. We need elite QB or elite TE to produce and we have neither. Better to sign middle of the pack blocking tight ends for 4-5 million a year who can have 18/250/ 2-3 TD . Use the remaining on defense or sign the best free agent on 4th year of the rookie deal before trade deadline.

Thankfully we don't have agholor contract next year .

What is the dead cap on Henry next year?

It's super frustrating. Especially since we see glimpses. When they target them, it's normally good. I can only dream of if they'd given OC to Caley - or even more of a voice in play designs. Someday BB has got to see the missing production and make it an emphasis.
I will say, when they adjusted the game plan for Zappe, there were more passes to TE's. And I won't clear Mac of all blame. He needs to find those reads and make them threats - it will open everything up.

Patricia is a lousy playcaller.

Then include no blocking and you get what we have here. I dont like it anymore than you men.

I'm not one to know how to scrutinize playcalling (I basically watch the QB on tv until the ball leaves his hand like every casual fan in the world) but goodness Henry at least look like a solid $7 million QB at times last year.

It would be interesting to see the number of receptions by TE's from Zappe and Mac.

Our front office messed up. That's about it. No need to quote their salaries.

Hoping for a breakout game this weekend....

I'd say all 4 deserve their share of the blame. Matty P/Coaching, Mac, Henry, and Jonnu.

Hard to say who deserves the most. I tend to blame an individual for his own performance but between injury and just poor play Mac has not helped either out very much. And I've been on the side of letting the coaching stuff play out before we decide they suck and I've generally been encouraged by them but I definitely think coaching and scheme has it's share in this one. Between no FB and the OL needing help clearly the TEs have been blocking and chipping more and those are coaching choices. But even that doesn't explain it all. I think you need to blame it all and then some.

I think it can be fixed in a lot of ways and could go a long way to getting us into the playoffs. Individually they can just play better, the OL can play better and free them up to do more, the coaches can try and scheme it up a little to the TEs a little more and creatively....

Look at your young men fighting. Look at your women crying. Look at your young men dying. The way they’ve always done before.

If that's what he wants then that's what he gets.

Whatever. They're better than the ones we drafted before them and were in desperate need of TEs. It seemed like Mac had a rapport with Henry last year, so I have to think it's the playcalling that changed that.

Better than asiasi and keene means you just gotta be active on game days, not such a special achievement

Its only a matter of time with an Elite QB.
I don’t think its qb related only, Talent and scheme issues have an influence as well or do you think mac is not able to hit a target as big as a TE on a short route in the MOF?

No, but if Bill hadn't signed them, people would be *****ing that he didn't address the TE situation. I can't speak for Jonnu, but it definitely feels like the playcalling is moving away from Hunter Henry.

Let's unleash the beast ( two headed TE) after the bye.
