Case signed

The Patriots announced the signing of first-year long snapper Tony Case today.

From the team's press release:

Case, 24, attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., and was signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in the spring of 2004. The 6-foot-2-inch, 285-pound long snapper was signed by the Bills on April 30, 2004 and was released on June 18, 2004. The Colorado Springs native has spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant at Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb., helping to coach the team’s offensive line and long snappers. Case has also played in the National Indoor Football League. During his college career at Adams State, he was a three-year starter on the offensive line while also handling long snapping chores for the Grizzlies.

EXTRA POINT: The Patriots' long snapper since 2000 has been Lonie Paxton. He is under contract through 2007. It has been common for the team to add a second snapper in the offseason and training camp.

One of few Pats signees I've never heard of. He should give Jon Condo or Mike Lorenz a call about his chances of beating Paxton.

I thought Zak Deossie was going to be our new long snapper

Superbowl bound with this signing?? Nah...

Now, if it was QB Stoney Case, then we'd be getting somewhere.

If I interpret this right, Case is only around to make sure that all of the punters can get reps in less time during camp, as well as to give more practice to special teams players. With an already solidified long snapper in play, I doubt that Case wants more than a nice training camp bonus.

Yeah!!! We Got Tony Case!!! - We Can Now Pack Our Bags And Head Right To Arizona For The Big Game!!

Stoney Case QB the Odessa Permian team to the state championship the year after the season that the movie Friday Night Lights movie came out. Just thought that it was a fun fact about as relevant as the signing as Tony Case.

I was very interested in the story because I've actually been to Adams State College! We own undeveloped land in Alamosa, which is an amazing part of the world: 40 by 80-mile valley, flat as Kansas, at 7500 feet of elevation, with cactus growing on it in places, surrounded by 14000-foot peaks! At the northeast end of this San Luis Valley sits Great Sand Dunes National Park, with the tallest dunes in North America (700 feet)! Who knew the tallest dunes were in COLORADO?

Adams State is a fairly sleepy campus of 5000 students, I think, in the town of Alamosa (pop. about 5000 more, I think). 4 hours from Denver, 5 hours from Albuquerque. Very remote town! Hard to imagine a Patriot coming from that school. (Pretty sure it's Division II at the most.) We're going out there this summer to camp with the kids.

:woohoo:

I wonder if this graduate assistant is also auditioning to be an assistant for Scarnecchia or Seeley, not to mention offensive quality control assistant?
