I'm a rabid Vol fan and had never heard of him, like never even heard the name, until I read this thread. If that tells you anything...

Yes, I remember the conspiracy theory. That's why we have Top Gun.
During the swinging '80s I was part of a deployment from MCAS Beaufort SC to NAS (now MCAS) Miramar CA where the Top Gun exercises were held. The movie itself was nothing more than a Tom Cruise ego-trip with very little basis in actual reality. He probably just liked the title and thought it would be cool to play a "hot-shot" ace pilot, and hey of course there just Has to be a hot piece of ass instructor to bag too right? Waste of money (ours, not his).

I missed the whole Pats signing a German TE connection to Rocky movies thing. WTF?

You didn't happen to know a couple of Harrier pilots from PA who flew Harriers, did you? I went to engineering school with them. They would have been flying in the latter 80s.

Although this board is extremely intelligent. They sometimes are like a dog. Right in the middle of doing a wonderful trick they all of a sudden vigorously start licking their butt.

I can tell from the replies everyone is super pumped about this signing

20-0 we’ll win Super Bowl twice.

Rocky 4, Red Dawn, and Top Gun are really the Holy Trinity of Cold War propaganda. Er, cinema.

You forgot Iron Eagle.

Because Rocky fought Ivan Drago who was not German.

Ivan was from RUSSIA!

Great, I hope he can learn the playbook and will be a contributor to another Pats Superbowl .....

No free tape available on him? Can he catch? Does he catch with his hands or body? Can he block? No youtube? I mean 9 years olds even have youtube highlights now a days.

No sorry, I worked on the ancient but badass F-4s and briefly the F-18s when they finally came on-line. Your buds & their Harriers might've been assigned to Cherry Point NC or El Toro CA, two air stations that I'm pretty sure had AV-8s during the time you mentioned.

Is he quick???

Getting back to Jakob. When PFT first post this in the afternoon, I googled him and led me to believe he was 6'4 23o ish. Now I read he's 280? what's the truth.

Couple of other points on the international program.

a. Right now he is part of the 90 man TC roster and will participate fully in all team activities prior to TC. The only "free" part in this is if the Pats cut him and add him to the PS. THEN he wouldn't count as one of the 10 guys.

b. And even though we need all the help we can get at TE, I would have rather gotten the guy the Dolphins got. A huge DT from Brazil who looked like he could run a bit.

I believe the 285 is an error by Sports-Reference, and that it’s actually Tennessee’s Jahmir Johnson with those measurements. Jakob was listed at 250 a year ago.

He was allotted to us at random ... that's how the program works.

There were 7 players at the “international pro day”. Doubtful that the AFCE teams were not able to direct the selection process at all. Whats the point of that simulated proday then ?
