I'll have to find time to play around with this later. Pretty nifty though!

I didn't realize how much dead cap commitments we still have...another example of just how shaky Bill & Nick's roster management can be...I hope they can knock off some of that useless space during this off-season, because we'll need every dollar of free space in order to re-sign Tre Flowers, Trent Brown et al.

the pats will have around 700k in dead cap starting 2019 season in a couple weeks, so thats not much I would say, but will for sure go up after the first drops

contract extensions will increase the cap space to move around, guess Flowers might stay for some 15M/Y, Trent Brown I would also like to keep but would not want to pay him 10+M/Y already starting in 2019 season, somwhere 5-7 M/Y seems reasonable

There’s no chance that Trent is staying here for 5-7m. On the free agent market your looking at 10-15m

Sorry I wrote my thought wrong there, was thinking about more 5-7M for next year and than going up to the +10M, it's about the structure of the contract and the garantees BB is going to give if he wants the player to stay or sees the vaue in the players.

At least one out of Flowers and Brown would be nice to keep.

Ahh okay, that makes more sense. Yeah I can understand what you mean now. Yeah if they can structure it correctly then I’m all for it.

The good news is there are at least a half dozen guys on our roster that we can extend their contract and reduce their 2019 cap hit.

We have some talented 2018 draft picks on the ir that will play a major role in 2019. Wynn was coming off a torn labrum or something last summer, so hopefully with a full offseason in the strength and conditioning program, he will be ready to start next year.

Bentley showed us a lot earlier this year. Should start in 2019.

Dawson should carve out a role as a slot corner in the secondary next year as well.

Who can be extended? Brady? Edelman? Devlin? Chung?

    Brady, Jules, Devlin, DMac,HT.

Chungs cap hit is fairly low anyway, so can’t see them touching his.

Clayborn will be cut as he won’t be here at $6m cap hit

Dwayne Allen will be reconstructed as he won’t be here for $7.5m

After playing with it here is what I predict/have come up with.

    Retiring - Gronk :(
    Releasing - Clayborn - DE (save 4M)
    Restructure - D. McCourty - (save 3M) Brady (save 3M), Allen (save 3.4M)

    Sign the following.

    Flowers(14M), Gost(4M), J. McCourty(4M), M. Brown, Dorsett, R. Allen (2M a piece), J. Jones (1.5M), Waddle (1.5M). Simon (800K). Edit: Amendola (3M)

At this point your roster looks like this and you will have 6M in cap space.

    QB - 2- Brady Hoyer
    TE - 2 - Allen, Hollister
    OT - 3 - Wynn, Cannon, Waddle
    OG - 3 - Mason, Thuney Karras
    C - 2 - Andrews, Ferentz
    WR - 3 - Edelman, Amendolal, Dorsett
    RB/FB - 4 - Michel, White, Burkhead, Develin

DE - 5 - Flowers, Wise, Simon, Rivers, Davis
    DT - 3 - Guy, Brown, Butler
LB - 4 - Van Noy, Hightower, Roberts, Bentley
CB - 6 - Gilmore, McCourty, JC Jackson, J. Jones, Crossen, Dawson
    S - 4 - McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Ebner

STs - 4 - Gost, Allen, Cardona, Slater

Clearly TE would be a big issue here as would WR. I don't think they keep Hogan after this year and Patterson doesn't really solve the WR issue. The offense is in need of an immediately play maker but the defense is mostly good to go with a few odds and ends.

Gonna have to see how FA pans out, Flowers is top priority

Expect 87 to retire and Allen released, would love Trent back but expect him gone

Trent was a nice Mountain of a find but he ain't getting $10Mill to stay here. Wynn should be good to go after that injured redshirt year. We could always Draft a Offensive Tackle on day 2 or 3 Dante is still alive and well.

That’s why I said 10-15m. Agree I’d be surprised if he’s still with us next season, he was a quality find. Imagine we will get at worst a 4th round comp pick for him too.

We won’t know a lot until Gronk, D-Mac make their choices if they want to retire or not. Brady will sign an extension as well, so that’ll lower his cap hit too.

    Exciting times ahead.

How much extending Tom's contract for let's say 2 years can save us?

I think Hogan's gone too. He was a zero in the SB. Don't understand why Brady eyeballed him so early & often when there were receivers who were, you know, actually open on those plays.

The Experiment, OTOH, is somebody I would Love to see return, at the right price of course. He would be the best KOR/5th RB/6th WR in the league. I would also like to see Phil Dorsett return as our 5th WR, but I fear that some team will offer him a contract more worthy of a #3 WR, and that's a place that Bill will never go..

If they convert $12.97 million of his salary into a signing bonus (spread over 3 years), putting him at the $1.03 million minimum salary, then it’s about $8.65 million in cap savings. If they convert his $1 million in per-game roster bonuses as well (therefore guaranteeing them instead of making him earn them), then it’s about $9.31 million in 2019 cap savings.
