Compete at drills, darts, parallel parking and Parcheesi... I want to see the competitive gene.

Assuming they don't have them in for a private workout, teams need the combine and pro day to measure these players. Height, weight, wingspan, athleticism... suggesting otherwise is absurd. Science matters, athleticism matters, it's not everything... but it matters quite a bit.

Randy Moss wasn't Randy Moss because he gave good a pre-draft interview or worked with orphans... he was an athletic freak.
Most of the time a drill is skipped due to injury. Not all the time… but most.

Yeah, the combine convinced MIN to draft him 21st.

Perhaps, more should have watched the game film at him as his college championship and gotten more input. Based on the combines, Randy Moss should have drafted higher.

Sometimes… draftscout does a good job noting which prospects gave a partial workout due to injury.

Every year over a thousand players apply for an NFL job, about 200-250 actually get one. Suggesting combine and pro day workouts don’t matter much, especially to guys from small schools is absurd.

Aren't afraid to compete? For what? fan approval?

LET ME BE A BIT MORE SERIOUS
I think that all these are more important than combine drills and measurements

1) college play and film
2) post season practices, games, and interviews
3) combine interviews
4) pro day
5) team visits
6) input from college coaches who coached him or coached against him
7) character issues, on-the-field and off
8) leadership roles on college team

To be clear, we all have our measurements that matter, but teams don't need the combine to get the information: height, weight, hand size, and wingspan.
2 shouldn't be so high most colleges don't make the playoffs.

7 & 8 should be higher. The margin of difference in skill isn't as big as the differences in character and roles.

Mayo couldn’t stay healthy when he was an active player; he’ll pop a hamstring on the first play from scrimmage if he tries to play today.

I agree that he was injured often, but let's remember the amount of tackles he accrued. Mayo had over 800 tackles in his career, eclipsing the 100 mark his first three years, with 174 in 2010, a break in 2011 with only 94, then hitting 147 in 2012.

Donta, who I think would seem less injured, had almost 600 tackles. Jamie Collins had about 800. Mayo got his in basically about 5 years.

That guy got worn the **** out. HE was the defense in those God awful years. I wish we got to see him in a good defense.

fair enough

However, lots and lots of NFL players play in playoff games or in games like the Senior Bowl, the East West Shrine Game, and 30+ bowl games.

HIs first 5 seasons he missed a grand total of 5 games, his next two seasons were marred by injury and he finished up by playing all 16 in his final season.
