Andrews knee may have never healed properly. We don't know if Strange's knee is OK.
He suffered a serious meniscus tear. Like you say if hes still having issues/pain then the team needs to move on.

I agree. Too bad some posters can't sympathize with the player and recognize injuries happen no matter what round the player was selected. I hope Jake, and others, work something out after playing football all their lives. Must be a tough adjustment. I always think of Malcolm Mitchell's story of adjusting.

It's a shame. I think last season was Jake's chance to show if he could be our C but injuries clearly prevented that, and now the new coaches have moved on.

I'm in the minority here, but Andrews is not a surprise to me.
With four centers on the roster (not including Strange as a potential backup), Jake Andrews had no shot at surviving final roster cuts.
The team was doing him a favor by releasing him now, so he can have a chance at spending a full offseason with another team.

The five other players that were released had no shot either. Let's see what the new guys can do.
Yeah I don't know where the shock/surprise comes from. They just signed a starter level center, re-signed a depth guy in February, and drafted another in the third round. That isn't even factoring Cole Strange into the mix. Andrews played 70 snaps on offense in 2 years so it shouldn't be some major revelation that he wasn't in the plans this year.

2023 day 3:

4(107) C Jake Andrews- released

4(112) K Chad Ryland - released. Team committed the double sin of drafting him too high, then releasing him too early.

4(117) G Sidy Sow - will likely be on the roster bubble

5(144) G Atonio Mafi - released

The 6th round picks were better than the 4th round picks.

Not a very high bar to clear for 106 Woodson/137 Farmer/146 Swinson.
Regarding Ryland, if you pick a guy who can play, then you shouldn’t be releasing him.

What is too high for a player who can play? There are players considered reaches all the time who show they can play. Duron Harmon is another hated pick who justified the pick.

The Ryland selection caused an unwarranted backlash against the player.

The fans, and chat room experts didn’t cause his release, but they certainly fomented a negative atmosphere.

Malcolm Mitchell.....what could have been.

Without ryland we don't get maye...

It is our fault he sucked?

looking at players drafted like Andrews, Mafi, Sow, Hines, Sherman, Woodard, Herron, Froho.
these players simply did not receive the proper coaching needed for a lineman selected on day 3.
can't say they were bad picks. more likely, they never had a chance given the coaching and schemes while they were here

Most of those players were no better anywhere else, so I’m not sure it was the coaching. Woodard quit, came back and was waived.

It shows you how weak the bottom of the roster was when 16 UDFAs are all fairly clearly above so many holdovers

Titus Leo and Mark Perry were both claimed by the Titans. Their roster must be that much worse than ours. Also wonder if still some bad blood in their (semi-new) front office and they want to try to show Vrabel up and succeed with guys he cut?….
Titans claim DE Titus Leo, DB Mark Perry off waivers
