Patriots Preseason Opponents Announced
By: Derek Havens

The NFL has released the schedule for 2012 preseason. Among the four Patriots opponents, only the date of the second game is set, as it will be shown on ESPN. ...

It is strange we have the first two preseason games at home.

As far back as I can remember we rotated our preseason schedule

One year we had the 1st and 3rd preseason game at home.
The next year we would have the 2nd and 4th preseason game at home.

This year we have the 1st and 2nd preseason games at home.

Week 1 (Aug. 9-13): New Orleans at New England
Week 2 (Aug. 20): Philadelphia at New England, 8 p.m. (ESPN)

*Only date set in preseason at this point.
Week 3 (Aug. 23-26): New England at Tampa Bay
Week 4 (Aug. 29-30): New England at N.Y. Giants

I wonder if we will have the 3rd & 4th preseason games at
home next year.

Anybody know of any changes to the preseason format?

I, for one, am getting tired of closing every pre season with the Giants.

It doesn't seem to work out so well when we finish the entire season against them either.

Memo to Bob Kraft: try to avoid playing the Giants in February.

First of all, what possible difference could it make to anything? It's the preseason.

The NFL has to make a Logistics Program spit out a schedule of 64 games over just four weeks that accounts for hundreds of variables ranging from traditional preseason matchups to stadium availability to God knows what else, with everybody playing two games at home and two games on the road.

It's really not that hard to figure out. There are really only six possible outcomes: HHAA (Home, Home, Away, Away), AAHH, HAHA, AHAH, HAAH, AHHA. Why is it so surprising that one of those six possibilities would turn up in a given year for a given team when so many other factors drive the schedule?

Haha, so am I, but they're the closest team we most rarely play in the regular season, so it's understandable. Teams schedule their own preseasons so for a variety of reasons the Pats and Giants like to play each other.
