Patriots Lose Dion Lewis During Sunday's Win Over Washington

Ian Logue

The Patriots went out and took care of business against Washington on Sunday, but it may have come at a cost.

Man, i hope its nothing serious. Also, how is Vollmer and Harmon?

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the "hope" is Dion Lewis suffered just an MCL sprain Week 9 against the Redskins.

Lewis went down in a heap after planting his left leg at the end of a screen pass in the third quarter. An MCL sprain would be good news, but Lewis would still likely miss several weeks. LeGarrette Blount will be a solid RB2 as long as Lewis is sidelined. We will know more following Lewis' MRI.

Just saw the play. It didn't look good. By Lewis' reaction it seemed like he was despondent over feeling something tear.

Bolden is the next BJGE

He has better hands than Lewis too. The Pats offense will be fine and just cant run certain plays that Lewis excels at.

There is zero percent of this post that is accurate, outside of "The Pats offense will be fine".

Your opinion and a dollar will buy a coke.

Brandon Bolden got his first snaps on offense this week, for the first time in 6 weeks.

If he were as good as you say, he would have gotten more than "zero".

Brandon Bolden is a core special teamer, who can take a few snaps at RB in case of emergency. That's what he did today.

I'd be very happy with an MCL sprain. It may cost us a game at some point but if he's healthy for the playoffs that's huge. Then on the lone bright side, not that it's what I wanted, but if he only plays 2 or 3 more regular season games that would cut down on his chances of getting hurt again.

Until they know the extent of the injury there is no use worrying about it. For all we know it's a mild sprain and he'll be back in 2 or 3 weeks.

Lewis, Woody and Vereen cam all do what the Pats are looking for in a change of pace RB. Bolden is a plodder like BJGE was and he does have better hands.

Until Lewis could no longer fill his role there was no reason for Bolden to practice with the 1st team. Now there is assuming Lewis is out for a while and if you don't like it too bad.

Every time I see him run I hold my breath. The cuts he makes both impress me and scare me to death. Pray he is OK because be is an incredible player and a game changer for us.

Bolden hasn't been a big part of the Patriots offense over his career, but the truth is he's capable of a bigger role.

When given the opportunity, Bolden has proven to be dependable. Back in 2012, he ripped off a 137-yard game with a touchdown on 16 carries against the Bills. In 2013, he caught 21 passes during the season for 152 yards.

Bolden caught just two balls in 2014, but had three receptions on Sunday against the Redskins. He can probably expect to see his role in the offense increased if Lewis is out for an extended period of time. In fact, Bolden was in the running for the role Lewis ended up with once Jonas Gray was released prior to the beginning of the season. Lewis distanced himself from the pack once the season began, but Bolden was a contender leading up to the season.

Bolden catches on quickly as Lewis's replacement
