It's all about the injuries this season. Talib as a regular starter with no restrictions? Great. Talib as a part-timer with a chronic hip? Not so much.
If Talib is too pricey, I'd consider Ryan and a cheaper vet - and instead, I'd look to upgrade the safety position with Byrd or Ward, particularly Byrd.
The other thing is that strengthening the DL can make the D-backs look a whole lot better. Cases in point: San Fran and Seattle.
I agree with san fran but not Seattle if anything Seattles DB's make there DL look better, as for letting Talib walk and going with Logan Ryan as the #1 CB that may just happen but if they don't bring in one of the top safeties and a pass rusher we all seen what a good pass offense can do to this defense with out Talib

And this is exactly the reason why I think it's quite reasonable to expect 1 million or so per year less than Grimes' pact.
I think you have to look at the whole body of work, and in his 6 seasons in the NFL he's never once finished with his team in Dec/Jan, and has missed a little more than 1/5 of every single season.
You just never know when that hip will flare up, as we've all learned the hard way.
That all said, I'm still hoping that they can reach an agreement.
