Patriots - Bears, What to Watch For Preseason Week 2

Steve Balestrieri

For the Patriots, now is the time to get things accomplished, the season opener is Arizona is only 24 days from today.

#1 Jimmy G. This will be #1 every game. Again he will be missing a lot of top line weapons but i want to see him go through hie reads and make smart choices and move in the pocket and get rid of the ball.

#2 OL - It sounds crazy to say this so early but at this point i feel like i am done specifically looking at Thuney. He is good to go. A focus on him a play here or there maybe but I am very confident we made a good choice there. Solder, Andrews, and RG will be my focus. I am pretty much done looking at RT due to the fact they underwhelmed last game and i don't expect them to step it up. That situation is what it is.

#3 Gaffney - I am really starting to think he can challenge for starting duties. It says more about our situation at starting RB than his play though. He looked flat out better than Blount last game. It was not just the yards but overall. Blount looks as slow as he did last year and while he can have a few decent runs I would not be surprised if Gaffney proves to be the better option.

#4 LeBlanc/C Jones/J Jones - CB depth of course is a must. These 3 rookies hopefully continue their upward trend. Also will be watching Coleman cause he could be the odd man out.

#5 Flowers - Let see him do it again. Not a fumbled returned for a TD but just solid pressure and doing it against a starting OT.

Those are my top 5.

HMs - KGH, Derby, Grissom, Dobson.

Looking forward to seeing the younger players and see how they're progressing: Flowers, Grissom & Johnson and the young UDFA CBs as well.

Would love to see Dobson take control and really earn a spot.

Humber is an interesting player and strong tackler. Elandon Roberts is another intriguing prospect--probably PS bound.

Kamu Grugier-Hill is someone to watch-could be an impact STer and chip in on passing downs.

Also want to see how ready Valentine is to step into the DL rotation.

Of course keeping my eye on the OL and look for any signs of gelling there. Tough at this point with the injuries.

Gaffney is intriguing; I've been pulling for him to make it. Just a gut feeling.

And Jimmy G's progress is something to watch for.
