Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

I noticed that when they were trying to decide to trade with Arizona, BB told Caserio to hold the trade because BB was getting more offers. But Caserio had already fired the gun on the zona trade and BB seemed slightly displeased. Anyone else see that?

I think Caserio was a bit worried about the time elapsing as they almost lost the deal with the Raiders with only about 5 seconds left before they picked Gronkowski so he made the deal fast and without checking.

I didn't think they wanted Gresham, not at all.

I hate to criticize Bob Kraft because I love the guy, and I think it's great that he talks to players, but man he's sitting right next to Belichick and offering his two cents as Belichick is trying to make trades. Jeez, Bob, just sit there and be silent please.

I understand exactly what you're saying, but he has the right to do whatever he wants - he isn't being Al Davis or Steinbrenner, so I'm perfectly happy letting him chat BB's non-phone ear off. I think by now, Belichick has learned to work with him.

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

no, they had decided to make the deal, so he gave the word, and right after he did so belichick picked up the phone and it was another offer.
it was just bad timing.
I'm kind of curious who it was and who they were trying to get.

I think this is a good illustration for all the fans at home watching and yelling "WTF is taking so long!"

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

The Redkins probably even get in a round of golf between picks!

On the other hand, the Cowboys' footage was extra exciting because they let the cameras loose on their draft board -- All Access blurred that out. Seemed a bit more elaborate of a system than the Cowboy's handwritten vertical sort..

There is actually some footage of the Pats board but there is no real context to understand what you are seeing. I saw the names Olsen, Grothe, Matthews, McClendon and some others stacked vertically. Again you can only see a small portion and there is no context but still pretty cool. Look around the 6 minute mark.

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

I've just been reading through the trades to better follow this vid --- remember that bottom 3rd rounder we traded to tenn last year?
that eventually turned into spikes, mesko, and carolina's second next year.

and there are really people that ***** about this?

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

am I just reading too much into this or does it look like they originally planned on drafting gresham at 22 from that footage?

edit: oops -- I take it back.

edit: this footage is supersweet!!

I always had the feeling they wanted gresham....but alls well that ends well

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

I saw the names Olsen, Grothe, Matthews, McClendon and some others stacked vertically.

C/OG Eric Olsen - drafted round 6 by the Broncos
QB Matt Grothe - undrafted (tryout w/ Bucs)
C Kevin Matthews - undrafted (signed w/ Titans)
OG Jacques McClendon - drafted round 4 by Colts

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

Always wanted to see how that worked, great insight..

The next step is finding out how they make the decisions who to draft, surprised to see BB in a sport coat and tie..

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

Graet segment....I agree that drafting McCourty was the right thing to do GIVEN the run on CBs...NO WAY do they get a solid top notcher in the 2nd round..I really think The Jets may have drafted him..instead they took Wilson..It was THEN or not getting one..and with him as teh BAA...it was the pick. Getting Gronkowski and Hernadez make the tight end position quite strong..thinking this year they will keep 3...
Nice footage...

It certainly looked that way. I've seen that dynamic at some family dinners before.

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

Yes, great video. Looking at the boards was very interesting. When they made the trade with Dallas, there was another trade on the board there that they were evaluating - with Cleveland. They could have traded 24 for 38, 85 and a high 5th (if memory serves). But they chose 27 and a move up from 119 to 90. So obviously they liked the talent there in the bottom of the 1st.

I agree that Kraft has every right to be there. I'd prefer, however, that he sit quietly and watch the maestro. But the maestro is used to making critical decisions in a split second with 70,000 fans screaming and 25 cameras zoomed on his face.

So he can probably ignore Kraft if he wants to.

I can never seem to stream anything off the Patriot site anymore... It just skips and freezes out.

Mr. Kraft still knows how to negotiate and still has many connections in the league. You may have noticed that he was the one talking to Jerry Jones. That obviously isn't by accident. I also thought it was good that he was the one talking up the players after BB made the initial call. He definitely has his role in the process.

one of those little icons allows you to d/l the vid -- it's mp4.

He was repeating what Belichick had said. I love Kraft but he's the crazy uncle, nothing more; IMO of course.

Re: Patriot Access: Inside the War Room/interview with Nick Caserio

If I could feel better about this draft I do after watching that. They got the players that they had targeted in the spots that they wanted them.

Some may say Cunningham was a reach based on the rankings at credible sites. But it's clear that the Patriots had him rated as a second pick and I think we can assume that other teams might have also. They would not have taken him at #53 if they thought he would be there for a later pick.

Cunningham's numbers stack up well against the more highly-touted Carlos Dunlap, so that would suggest he could be a good 'un. Also, he comes without Dunlap's alleged tendency to take plays and series off.

Thanks to the OP for the link. I really enjoyed it. You could just see the tension in that room, especially with the Gronkowski pick.
