How many superbowl apperances does Cassel have? Dude couldnt even lead his team to the playoffs. I'm going to be laughing so hard when he falls on his face in KC and never gets a starting gig again. Boom....... roasted.

Briz, is that you?

This really is, by far, the worst move any team has made this year.

Brady's cap hit is 15M. So is Cassel's. Manning's is almost 22M. Roethlisburger is 13.3. Rodgers is getting 13+. Favre made 12M in salary alone last year, so his earnings counting the divided bonus were in the 15M range. Rivers, Cutler and Manning 2 will all sign for deals in excess of 15M a year in the next 2 years.

Brady's cap hit is so high because he had a low cap hit earlier in his deal. The first year of this current contract his cap hit was $8 million and that included remaining dead money from his previous contract. I am sure if Delhomme sees year four of his deal that his cap hit will be in the $15 million range. You can't judge a deal based on what the player's cap hit later in his contract. With roster bonuses, escalators, and backloaded base salaries; most players in the NFL have much larger cap hits later in their deal than early in their deal. It means nothing for the overall contract.

Based on this logic, Jarvis Green is the fifth highest player on the Patriots since his cap hit is the fifth highest this year. Or at the very least, you are arguing that Green makes $5.4 million a year because this year's cap hit is $5.4 million.

You said the following that I was responding to:

Seriously, good starters are getting 12-15M a year.

Now you are talking cap hits. Cap hits are not salaries or even real money. It certainly doesn't represent what they get paid on a yearly basis. Just because Mannings cap hit is $22 million doesn't mean he is making $22 million this year. You are saying Brady has a $15 million cap hit this year, but he is only being paid $9.6 million this year ($6.6 million base salary and $3 million roster bonus). Also, next year although he will have a $10.2 million cap hit, he will only be paid $6.6 million (a $3.6 million base and $3 million roster bonus).

Not at the position.

Eli got $20M+ guaranteed on his rookie deal. He'll get $40M guaranteed on his new deal later this year.

Manning got $34.5M in signing bonus and $45M over his first three in a deal signed in 2004.

Again, we are talking right now. Besides, even if Eli gets that type of a deal, it still won't change much since Delhomme would still be in the lower part of the top 10 since Eli is already ahead of him. Also, Eli is going to get paid for leading his team to a Super Bowl win (Delhomme has already been rewarded for his Super Bowl appearance). He will end up being in the top 3 of QB salaries when he gets his deals.

I never said this deal is top 5 or even 6 or 7, but if it isn't 9 or 10 in salaries, it is damn close. Delhomme based on his age, production, and injury status deserves to be in the 15-20 range. Heck, most people felt the Panthers were going to dump the guy this offseason not give him a deal that pays him in the top third or even half of the NFL QBs.

I kind of agree. I think delholme is a terrible qb who just happens to have an elite WR keeping him looking average.

He also has the "Smash and Dash" duo of Jonathan Stewart and Deangelo Williams in the backfield. The other WRs outside of Smith are no slouches either. Plus the Cats OL is very good.(Otah was a very good draft pick last year - which they had to trade for)

As long as this personnel stays intact this season, Delhomme will be fine.
