I have a friend who is one of those rare birds who can play golf only a few times a year but still play well. He was a top player as a youngster growing up in Ohio.

Yep- those people walk among us....

Looking at it closely that was not an easy putt at all ... the cup area was right near a dip (left) which the ball was on. To compound the problem he has the putter unlevel ... screw the yips that was just horrible fundamentals as he thought it was an easy one. These guys know better ... you just don't play the break on those short ones as you're more likely to push or pull it ... he starts out with the intent to drive it to the right side then changes his mind mid stroke and thus pulls it.

Always accelerate the putter through the hole with an extremely short backstroke on short putts and you'll almost never have an Ernie moment. Play the ball to one side of the cup or the other but try not to play the break as it tends to lead to putter deceleration ... ouch. If you feel you must play the break ... a quick stab without almost no backstroke works best.

I don't play golf... but when we lived in Maine, we lived at the Falmouth Country Club, in a house overlooking the 5th hole, a par three with a pond 3/4ths of the way to the green on the right (in our backyard).

Putting on that hole wasn't too bad, but the pond? Hoo-boy...

I can't tell you how many times I'd be out on the back deck in the afternoon, grilling or whatever, and hear the following:

1. Whack from the tee
2. 'Plunk' in the pond
3. Long stream of curse words. LOL And the ladies had fouler mouths than the men!

I can and have done that. I also can play as well as Jason Day for one hole, not to mention Angel, former Masters champ, for one hole. I played earlier this month and they had burned down the tall grass on some holes.
There were hundreds of golf balls in that grass. Made me feel that I didn't suck any worse than a lot of players.
