OT: Super Bowl 50 Golden Team (Brady and BB aren't on it, shocker, not)

I really can't quibble on the Brady vs. Montana selection. While Brady's been to more, Montana performed better during his 4 than Brady did over his 6. Brady's a better QB than Montana, but isolated to Super Bowls only I think Montana performed better there.

Chuck Noll compared to Bill Belichick? I think they're just doing the same as above - while BB is 4-2 in his as HC (which is what the team position is, HC), Noll is 4-0.

Glad that Vinatieri made it - no other kicker would make sense at all.

Really? Chuck Noll? Not BB or Lombardi?

Don't get me wrong he's a legend but BB's been to more and the damn trophy is named after Lombardi.

Except that's dumb logic to discredit the guy that has been to more and has the same amount of wins

Most of Lombardi's accomplishments were before the Super Bowl era (beginning with the 1966 season) so Noll and BB would be above him, since this only considers the 50 Super Bowls.

Desmond Howard went to 1 Super Bowl and was named the team's kick returner. They're basing it off performance in one Super Bowl.

How do you judge performance of a coach during the Super Bowl? Easiest way is how often he wins. For the same number of wins, picking the guy who has a 1.000 winning percentage versus 0.667 winning percentage isn't dumb logic, in my opinion.

It might be different after BB/TB retire and their stories are finished.

SB game averages for both

Brady 27 of 41 (65.8%) 267 yards 2.1 TD 0.6 INT

Montana 20 of 30 (66.6%) 285 yards 2.7 TD 0.0 INT

Call me a homer but going off of their SB averages it can be argued Brady has been just as good as Montana in SBs.

I think people/media should stop comparing current era (post-salary cap era) to the 60s.... totally different football back then.

These are all HOFers for the most part. Brady and belichick aren't in the HOF yet. The only exceptions are vinatieri and Ray Lewis. Vinatieri is the only kicker that made sense. And Ray Lewis is retired. Brady and BB are still writing their stories.

The guy that should be on the team is Deion Branch.

Two Super Bowls, 21 catches 276 yards. Beat those numbers.

Make it 3.

He was on the 2011 team as well. Numbers might be bigger. Think he had a few catches in the game, especially during the last drive, think he came up with a first down.

You are right. Forgot about Deion 2.0. Against NYG - 3 catches, 45 yards.

We missed a golden opportunity at number 5. Just gonna get tougher next season. I hope bill learned that HFA matters

It's a surprisingly late lesson to learn for someone with over 50 years of coaching experience.

The salary cap and strict drug testing should be factors when comparing different generations.

Yep. It can also be argued easily that he wasn't.

I'm calling bullsh!t on Ray Lewis. Jack Ham could have been easily chosen but then you have two steelers but Lewis in 2 SBs only have 9 total tackles and no interceptions or sacks. For comparison Bobby Wagner has 22 tackles and an interception. Sorry but that was with practically no research since I knew what a great game Wagner had against us. Given time I'm sure Ken Norton and others put up huge number in twice the SBs.
