OT: Shocker of the offseason: Aaron Rodgers expected to re-sign with the Steelers tomorrow

Rodgers is Favre 2.0. He went to Pittsburgh over the weekend and didn't meet with the Steelers. It seems pretty obvious he leaked it to the media he was going to be there.

How long before ESPN camps out in front of Rodgers' home to wait for his decision?

I still think it's hilarious that, because the Steelers just barely won their division in 2025 in the final week due to a missed kick, the Patriots get to play them this year as part of their "harder schedule". Meanwhile, the Bills have to play the Ravens and the Dolphins have to play the Bengals. I'd rather play the Steelers than either of those teams.

The long wait is over. Rodgers is resigning with the Steelers for real.

It's like Mike Brown is running the Steelers, perfectly content with 9-8 every season. They should have gone back to Justin Fields, he would have guaranteed them a top 5 pick and a potential QB for the future.

I just don’t understand why Pittsburgh lets themselves be held hostage by this guy. If it was 2015, that’s another story. Back then he was as dominant of a regular season QB as ever there was.

But here and now? I’ll admit he probably brings a couple extra wins to the team but what good is 9-8 when you know he has no long term future?

Yep. The Steelers need a really bad season to get a top quarterback.

I agree but the Steelers don’t believe in tanking so on they go in no man’s land.

Rodgers was in Pitt to visit Tomlin.

That amount of $ is ridiculous....he's been to what, 1 SB? lol I wonder how he feels about Maye already going so early in his career...probably something like "Oh that should have been MY team going! I played so well last year and everyone knows it. I should have been MVP also, just because the people on the TV told me that I was and am better than TB! I still think I am and the only reason I haven't been to another SB is because I have been cheated out of it! My shaman tells me my visions mean this!"

PFT offered an interesting hot take on why it took until now to sign. He was waiting for the schedule to come out. Without Rodgers, the Steelers wouldn't be as interesting to the networks and they would get fewer prime time games. Last season SHOULD have shown us that it is an overall advantage to play your games in the one o'clock window. Also Rodgers experienced how a season full of "prime time" games can be detrimental when he went to the Jets.

Now I don't know if this has any truth to it, but it DOES make sense. I don't know if this signing means he will report for any of the voluntary portion of the off season, though I suspect he will. I still hate Rodgers going back to the early 2010's when there was the controversy between who is better, Rodgers or Brady and we all were busy finding stats that showed that while he was obviously more gifted athletically, he wasn't CLOSE to Brady in his impact to the winning of games. IIRC, my favorite one was Rodger's lack of 4th quarter come from behind wins. I don't remember the numbers, but Brady had a LANDSLIDE (yes. it was more than just lopsided) majority).

When Rodgers won his back to back MVP's 5 years ago, the sports media morons tried to get away with the ole technicality "Brady is the greatest QB of all time but Rodgers is the most talented QB of all time."

Those people are nowhere to be found these days.

This is an oxymoron.

So, is your point that PIT should NOT have signed who they think is the best QB available to them because BAL has a stronger team with our without Rodgers?

Yes, fans are mixed as would be the case here for any signing here of any old veteran for $20M+ a year. Many just want move on and play one of the kids. Of course, others want another chance at the playoffs. It does seem unlikely that one their other QBs would have
3300 yards and 24 TD's and give them a better chance to win the division. Of course, BAL is favored in any case. However, many fans are very happy to have made the playoffs, something that would very likely NOT have happened without Rodgers.

Patriots may think that Mason Rudolph would be a better choice as starting QB in his contract here. Obviously, the coach, staff and most PIT fans disagree.

That being said. I would rather play again Rudolph than Rodgers, although we should be heavily favored against either QB.

The fact that Rodgers was Favre's successor has a delicious level of irony.
