XFL Suspends Operations, Lays Off Employees

Being from the St Louis area...Ka Kaw Ka Kaw

Edit: Can merge this with the other thread

It won’t. The demand just isn’t there except for a few fanatics. There’s no way the revenue the league will bring in will cover its costs. I’d say it will last one season or less. People use the time after the NFL season completes to get projects around the house done, spend more time with the family, etc. And that doesn’t even touch on the quality of the game on the field.

Called it.

Tough to start a new league with a pandemic and economic crisis. It'll be on the 30 for 30 someday when this is all behind us.

That was quick. Vince needs to stick to wrastlin’.

I doubt Vince needs anyone to come to his defense, but hard to pin this one on him. Just a symptom of a much bigger economic disease.

If this doesn't go away, one of the big 4 will eventually fold too.

Someday, someone's gonna figure out a way to make professional football in the Spring work.

I hope I'm around to see it.

Probably had a 1 in 10 or 1 in 20 chance of succeeding when things were normal. Hard to be successful when core parts of your business are essentially illegal during the pandemic.

Who ? Just curious...

Beats me, but with no ticket sales, where does the majority of money come from? You can't pay all the bills with merchandise of a sport no one is paying tickets for.

You'd think a business entity as wildly profitable as a major sports franchise would stash considerable money away for "rainy day funds". But then again, from the perspective/mentality of a billionaire, you could just keep most of that money and lay everyone off.

But who is the one you are thinking ?

LMFAO what? A rainy day fund? Any cash you have left over should be invested back into the business. Much better rate of return than just letting it sit in an account and earn interest. Jesus H. Christ, dude.

I maybe in the minority but I thought the xfl was ok. The standard was nowhere near the nfl but it was decent enough to watch (does not say much for sport on uk television then)..........lol

Businesses also don't like keeping cash because it gets taxed as income and banks don't pay real interest anymore. That said, like 70% of businesses right now probably needed a rainy day fund, but they probably knew they'd get bailed out even if they did stock buy backs than save cash.

But who is the one you are thinking ?

Which one is the least popular nationwide? I'd guess that would be the first.

I only watch Patriots games, I don't actually 'follow' sports.

There was a time when large corporations worked like that. Now, they invest just enough to meet market demand and sit on huge reserves of cash. It's one of our society's biggest problems.
