Crossing pattern to Troy Brown looked a lot like the OT throw to Edelman

.

I think that was the rule even then, but it wasn't enforced as strictly as it is today. I remember Rams fans *****ing about it then.

Chris
Likewise, the Tuck Rule wasn't really needed since the ref should have called roughing on Oakland for whacking Brady in the head on the play.

But what really stands out is the (lack) of blocking from the Rams, the Pats are confusing their O-line and Warner is being rushed on every throw and hit.

That Patriots team also had McGinest and Seymour. And the secondary's ability to cover gave the line more time to get after Warner.

If the 2010's Patriots had been blessed to have that defense , we'd probably have seen a run of something like 4-5 SB wins in a row.

Under current rules, Ty Law's interception score would've been called back for Vrabel roughing the passer (blow to head). Instead, as Summerall said, it was a clean hit on Warner.

Things like that is why I usually get a good chuckle off people trying to rank SB teams. The early 2000s teams would not be nearly as great of a defense nowadays because many of their players could not play any differently but physical.

They would get flagged crazily/disqualified and when trying to play within the ruleset of 2018 become pretty unremarkable. Similarly the later SB winning teams could never exist in the environment that was the early 2000s.

Each team is build for a snapshot in time in terms of your opponent schedule, micro trends in the league (body sizes for LBs, larger CBs) and macro trends (rule changes..).
