OT: Panthers sign Cam

Good deal for him. Patriots get $1.5M in cap room back next season.

It is for next year? I thought we were getting the cap relief this year. Let me hit Miguel up.
edit: You are right. So no help this year at all?

Panthers also play the Bucs twice.

Brady has never beaten a Cam Newton team in his career and he has two chances to do that.

Yeah I am not sure that Cam was the entire reason Brady didnt beat him. They are not playing tennis. Its a little different now.

Good for Cam, I am happy for him.

And the Panthers' situation is a good one for him. CMC can do all the work and both can attack the goal line. Some familiarity with D.J. Moore too.

Knowing that they have an extra $1.5M available next season (unless he retires or something), it would be easy enough to restructure a player or two to push $1.5M of cap hits from 2021 to 2022 if they so choose.

Why are we only getting 1.5M back? I thought we lose 3.5M off the cap in dead money when he was cut

I'm not really sure who they could sign? They needed someone and I think him going back there was the obvious choice.
They love him there and for good reason.

I’m beyond happy with Mac, but happy to see Cam get a shot. He was honestly a really great member of the NEP. The only gripes I have with him was his sometimes excruciatingly bad accuracy and the weird show he did with his dad after his release. But that was 95% his dad, he didn’t really say anything negative himself.

Definitely wish him the very best now that the CAR vs NE game has passed. Hope he does well. As others have said, he and McCaffrey are a good combo.

The money is a head scratcher though.

I mena, he got a shot with the Pats. This is his second shot. McCaffery cannot stay healthy and I have my doubts he can. I think this is one of those emergency things for Carolina.

Unfortunately? I’m happier they got to play Darnold, he might be the worst non-rookie starting QB in the NFL right now. Competing with the likes of Jared Goff, etc.

Happy for Cam, but SHOCKED with the reported contract. Way higher than I expected. OBJ is likely not getting more than the league minimum. Cam freakin' broke the bank. Good for him, and happy the Pats get that $1.5MM back on the cap. Every little bit helps

His signing bonus and workout bonus are not subject to offsets. The $1.5M guaranteed salary is subject to offsets.
