OT: Mangini's twisted message

I recently rewatched Hearns Leonard I, and Hagler vs "The Beast" Mugabi. These were tremendous fighters laying their lives on the line in the purest form of sport. Mayweather De La Hoya was not a fight, it was a partnership to steal money from the public.

oh boy, i couldn't agree more. the 80's were a hay day for the middle and light weights and for boxing as a whole. what i watched the other night was a pillow fight.

I actually did not know that...I always thought it was the Raiders.
I guess I think of the Rooneys, Noll, and Cowher as being classy for the most part. I am not even sure how taboo 'roids were back then. Regardless, I should not make a historical comment without knowing the facts.

Haslett admits to using steroids
Says Steelers of 1970s triggered outbreak

...Haslett said the Steelers of the 1970s were big steroids users.

"It started, really, in Pittsburgh. They got an advantage on a lot of football teams. They were so much stronger [in the] '70s, late '70s, early '80s ... Steve [Courson], Jon [Kolb] and all those guys. They're the ones who kind of started it."

The Patriots success is something to celebrate, but I do not think it drove some INTERNIST on the Steeler's staff to be involved with an hGH scandal.
Teams have many doctors who are affiliated...and I can tell you that no INTERNIST is going to be the primary guy who calls the shots on performance enhancing drugs. Maybe he is the scapegoat and the REAL Steelers staff, coaches, etc are involved - who knows? In the end, the Steelers are a class organization who do not have a history of such things.

Finally, the drive for success is what leads teams/players to these extremes...not the jealously of one team's dynasty status. We are lucky no one made a really big deal of Brady's BALCO connection...not that anyone should have because there is no smoke or fire there. I give the Steelers the same benefit of the doubt on this issue.

As for the Jets...I hate them, but don't think Mangini stoops to cheating. If he does as you say, do you think he did it as the Pats DC or DB coach? Is there a coincidence that he is very close to Rodney (recently voted Mr. Cheap-shot Artist of the NFL) and his team's tactics required an NFL rule change? I don't believe this things, but I thing we as Pats fans should respect the overall ethics of other teams because we are just like them.

Is it possible you may have confused the word "internist" (a doctor who specializes in internal medicine) with "intern" (an advanced student assistant)? Your statement "I can tell you that no INTERNIST is going to be the primary guy who calls the shots on performance enhancing drugs" makes no sense unless you confused the two words, because it is totally plausible for a doctor who is an internist to do that very thing.

I remember watching that fight live on TV. I also was, and still am, disgusted that Pryor wasn't immediately stripped of his belt and Arguello be given all the time he needed to recover and then prepare for the rematch. I wanted to see the cheater beat, badly. Sadly, that didn't happen.

The '70s and 80's were, indeed, the last great era of pro boxing.

I don't know about the Penguin's methods, but I do know this: had the donkeys defeated the 49ers, the jest would have played the dolts, and quite possibly could have won.

I really hate Sperm Edwards; and Billick, and dungheap, and napolian, and payaton, and all dolts fanboys.

* The 1st fight I saw in person was Hagler's 4th title defense against Wilford Scypion in Providence at the Civic Center. It wasn't that good a fight as Marvin Ko'd him in the 4th round and you could tell from the start, Wilford didn't have a chance. Seeing a fight in person, like all sports, is different than TV. I recall seeing Archie Moore on TV on the old Gillette Friday Night Fight's from the Gillette's Cavalcade of Sports and my father letting me have a sip of beer while watching it. I really like boxing but see so few fights that are worthy now it's almost impossible to stay interested.

The middleweight division was deep back then, and Marvin mowed through them all. There was Mugabi, Scypion, James Kinchen, Mustafa Hamsho, Caveman Lee, David McCallum, Hard Rock Green, Animal Fletcher, Marlon Starling, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran etc. It was a great time for middleweights.

The bottle, lol,
The Jets could of used it in the 2nd half of there playoff game against the Pats last season, as the Pats could of used it there 2nd half against the Colts. Maybe Red Bull will be brought in to consult with the Pats.

Wow, I think you are digging a little too deep for reasons to hate Mangini. Hell, I hate the guy as much as anyone, but I hate him for leaving the Pats so suddenly and for trying to get our players. I don't think he showed his players a pre-game film of someone cheating to get the message across that it's OK to cheat. Let's be real here...
