OT:Imagine our team was run like this

Reminds me of all of those threads that want us to sign high priced free agents, make outlandish trades and suggest that we have drafted the wrong guys..i.e. trading up for a higher priced player. I will take the way we do business anyday.

Wow, what a scathing piece on Gregg Williams.

yes..the media is always *for* players criticizing the coaches which has become the norm of the game these days...players saying they got outcoached and then claiming players make a team better not the scheme.

I'm no Redskins fan, but *what a hit piece*. Almost completely based on the mouthings of a single player who won't say anything on the record.

Notice the 'balancing' (and contradictory) information from the team and a player WHO WENT ON THE RECORD are buried in the 30th paragraph. Classic hallmark of slanted journalism.

Hey, CBS is still looking for a Dan Rather replacement.

Agreed. But it does look like a ship that is lost and sinking. I love that comment about needing players - not just schemes. Funny.

I remember Shannon Sharp talking about the decline of the Patriots and using those same phrases. He stated that the Pats coaches had gotten too arrogant and did not understand that players win games, not coaches. If you realize what the Patriots mean to organized sports, some players should be afraid, very afraid.

I don't think it takes too much of an imagination to see some parellels with the Pats - or at least some lessons for them.

But it was a blind confidence, and when Pierce became a free agent after the 2004 season, and talks began to stall, Williams, according to Redskins sources, claimed Pierce was "replaceable." It was the first hint of arrogance under the new Gibbs regime, a sense that Williams felt it was his system, not the players, that dominated offenses. Cornerback Fred Smoot was also a free agent at the time, and again, Williams felt Smoot was expendable, even though losing a starting linebacker and a starting corner would necessitate an extensive defensive overhaul.

"Why are we the 30th defense in the league? I think coaches got arrogant, I think Gregg got arrogant," the player said Tuesday, asking not to be identified. "They thought they figured it all out. They thought, 'We can win with scheme, we don't need players.' Don't be mistaken, this is a player-driven game, and so you need players. Any time in life when somebody thinks they've got it all figured out, it's going to come and get you. It's going to come and get you … the sentiment is a lot of guys are mad because the coaches think it's all about them. They think they're f------ geniuses, thinking they can just let guys go and get away with handling people badly."

They trade most of their draft picks away, have F.A.'s with huge contracts on the scout team, have players complaining the team sucks because they're not allowed to free lance and have players that think the coaches are arrogant because they actually want to coach the team.

Yeah, just like us. LOL

Perfectly put.

The only apparent similarity is a hostile and incompetent media.
