Its just the sign of the times where a certain group of people are constantly looking for reasons to be offended.

Good historical writing shows how people have always been this way - get offended about the slightest stuff, turn a random comment into something symbolic and then an insult, and go tribal and aggressive. Anything where there's a large volume of documentation will show this, e.g. how the Christian Bible was created, and European history, and early US history. People aren't any more sensitive now than they always have been. There are simply more channels for information/communicating to flow through, so there's more opportunity to encounter something that's upsetting.

I assume this is what gets you your "man card"?

All that thing does is tell me someone is doing a lot of compensating.
Remember what happens when you assume.

Yes, you are.
I’m a fan of the “Grand Torino” approach to insulting. If you saw how they taught the kid at the barber shop, that’s how we should communicate in my opinion

If I’m insulted or when I insult someone, we’ll both get over it.

Spend some time on Twitter and you’ll find that site has people that insult on a daily basis. Especially when you make a valid point

Because the storm didn't stall until it hit the Bahamas,

And thanks for one of the most troubling and insensitive posts I've seen over the last 20 years on this site. You should be ASHAMED
I think it’s called dark humor

I don’t think people like Ken know why they do what they do either. I mean, it’s obvious quite a few of the older folks around here don’t get humor as a coping mechanism, but to go above and beyond general concern for someone you’ve never met before and to really make an effort to show that your heart is bleeding for them is pretty ridiculous. If you were to dig deep enough into the psychology of it, you’d probably find that this is coming from a belief in karma. That if you outwardly show levels of concern above and beyond the normal for those people, good things will happen for you should you ever be presented with such a situation in your life. Hyper empathy. For example, I made this post a few pages ago and nobody batted an eye...

...because it contained a normal level of empathy. You inject some humor (gallows humor, as it’s been called) into it, though, and now you have every holier-than-thou old guy who drives a Toyota Yaris and got his sense of humor stripped from him a long time ago coming down on you. It’s actually quite humorous to watch. It’s okay, Ken. I still love ya. But maybe you should learn that people are allowed to use humor in times like this. If you feel differently, feel free to put me on ignore or whatever.
I’ve said for years now there are far too many Americans addicted to empathy. They seek out things on the internet that make them feel empathy

That’s not healthy and it actually is a sickness

Life gives us all plenty of opportunities to feel empathy. And showing empathy isn’t something one can take pride in.

That’s just an advertisement to the general public that you have a small ****. The car pictured in the report is the type of car that a person who apologizes when they hold the door open for someone else, and that person doesn’t thank them for holding the door, drives. Usually white, slender, wears glasses, from up in the northeast or a place like Minnesota, Oregon, or Washington state. They enjoy missionary sex with the lights off and a latte.

I am upset by this post.

How dare you.

Empathy, like anything else, is a good thing to have in the appropriate doses. Hyper empathy, however, is a weakness.

Indignation in a conversation on the internet is a waste of good emotion. Like a good story or poem, show me, don't tell me. That's all that really applies.

For self preservation, I re-read most posts a few times before I reply to make sure it's saying what I think it's saying.

Yes. Empathy is especially good to have and use when you can actually apply to another living thing in person.

I was born with the inability to have natural empathy towards people. I have to force myself to try to be in the other person's shoes. If I don't love it/them it doesn't compute.

I think they call that self-centeredness

Do you like bondage porn and have you killed enormous amounts of people in other states? Sounds like the traits of a potential serial killer. If so, please remember that I was always nice to you online. I’ve also PM’d you my ex’s address. Please advise when you receive it.

Of course if you had any empathy you'd be reading not to validate your thoughts about what a post is saying but what the OP actually meant. You really are an insensitive ****

I’d like to say good morning and welcome in the FBI agent who is now browsing this thread

Not into bondage porn. I live vicariously through @fnordcircle

Never murdered someone but have inflicted pain on those who had it coming.

I can send your ex a whole bunch of malware and have my buddy in the FBI make her life a living hell. He owes me. (scratch that...that would make me and you an accessory)

You should have already run for political office. Seems kinda obvious.

Social media has created a new species.....
The Perpetually Infringed

Kontras joke was hilarious. Everything should be joked about in my opinion. And without the freedom to offend you don’t have the freedom of speech
Hilarious is a bit of a stretch. He’s done better. Up your game Kontra!

Stuck inside due to the early bands of Dorian-category 3. Right now we've had multiple tornadoes and heavy rain.
Brunt of storm won't hit til tonight.
Enough of that, im glad you guys hijacked this thread. I was getting bored.
I've learned that 3 of my favorite posters all have issues:
Kontra is a heartless sob, Ken is a grumpy,thin-skinned old dude and rw! Yikes! is probably a serial killer.
Good job y'all,keep it up.

That’s because I have set lofty standards for myself. I’ll more readily take your opinion on my humor over Darryl’s. Darryl lost his sense of humor in the build up to World War II. Guy is about as interesting as a benign tumor on a dog’s ass.
