OT: Fantasy Football is The Devil

Absolutely, positively.

A Public Service Announcement for Fantasy Football Players:
Feel free to enjoy or even obsess about your hobby. But please be aware that outside of your league, the status of your fantasy team is the most boring, masturbatory conversational topic imaginable and will make you a pariah at social events. It even cost Tony Kornheiser his job. Thank you.

I'm not quite sure about being a pariah at social events. If it's a non-football event then talking about anything football related could/would probably be considered a boring, masturbatory conversational topic. If it IS a football event then I would imagine most people would understand that fantasy football talk among people in the same league is normal, just like conversations regarding betting on the games would be expected, even by non-gamblers. The point I would agree with is if someone starts talking to you going into detail regarding their FF team and you don't play FF, it's probably time to politely excuse yourself and go find someone to talk about why the Pats are giving 10 1/2 points

You betcha -- note that the PSA is specific to people outside your fantasy league.

But does anybody really enjoy watching a game and hearing a FF player not in your league babble about how a play is going to affect his fantasy ranking?

I'm certainly not going to lie, there ARE a lot of annoying people that play Fantasy Football. However, just like in life, there are always going to be people who tick you off, people who aren't in something for the same reason as you, and people who are just plain nuts. I like to think that those few (or growing mass...) don't ruin it for me/everyone.

As for me, my mindset is always that an opposing player simply wont fare well against the Pats, so I don't feel I'm "loosing out" when benching them. I do think the Pats will take away Clark from the game and I think I might end up getting a big game from Zack Miller (OAK).

As for my "money" comment, I think putting money on a game simply gives you a real reason to root for a team. Being a "fan" is great and all, but you really don't win or lose anything, only the teams do. When you start betting on sports, you become much more a part of it because you actually have something at stake, something to win or lose. Personally, I don't often bet on sports, but only because I'm not a guru. I have a far greater edge in poker, so I exploit that, though I do hope to eventually regularly bet on sports.

I just think it's silly to believe that there should only be one way to enjoy sports.

Fair enough. Personally, I run my own business. I take real risks and have real stakes in wins and losses all day long; football is an escape. I appreciate being able to just stand to the side and cheer.

Judging from game threads, I think most folks here recognize at least two: drunk and sober.

I do keep Fantasy football in check, though. I have 2 Colt players on my team right now (Collie and Clark), but I put them both on the bench and looked for the best waiver wire pick-up for the week. I mean, it's really simple. If you don't want to root against your team, sit those players facing your team. .

Some people can make analytical decisions without letting their fandom affect them.
