So. These last 6 months have been hell for me. Found out that I herniated a disc in my back in August. In October, we lost my dad unexpectedly to congestive heart failure. In November, my Uncle, my Father-in-law, and Mother-in-Law all contracted COVID. In January, we lost my Mother-in-Law to a bacterial infection on her pacemaker that was the a by-product of her having had COVID.

Over the course of things, the herniation has worsened despite Cortisone injections, Chiropractic care and Physical therapy. Does anyone remember who Gronk's surgeon was? I have the benefit of being able to reach out for second opinions and figured that I would do like I did with my knee and reach out to one of the best.

I did a quick search, but I couldn't find who it was that did the surgeries. Any help is appreciated.

Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles. Sorry to hear all you've been through, and best of luck.

I imagine that would be a rough flight with a herniated disc. Sorry to hear that as a fellow back ailment guy, I feel for ya.

Do you live in Mass?

Thanks Sciz.. I'll be reaching out to his office tomorrow..

I used to live in NH.. Now in TX.. I'm currently seeing one of the best guys in the DFW area but having a 2nd opinion on something like this is a must because it is so potentially life-changing if they fubar it..

Hang in there @DaBruinz . You're juggling a lot.

Sorry to hear that; that stinks. Hope you find a good specialist.

Sorry to hear about your difficult year. Here are some options to consider:

Close to you:

Dr Andrew Dossett - Orthopedic Surgeon | Spine & Sports Medicine Dallas
Performed Romo’s back surgery

Performed the first total disk replacement surgery in the US

Out-of-State:

Watkins is one of the best. Also performed two surgeries on Peyton Manning.

Performed two disk surgeries on Tiger

Best of luck to you.

Can't help you re Gronk's surgeon. But a pal of mine just had arthroscopic surgery to repair a ruptured disk, and raves about his surgeon, Mark Giovanini.

Dr. Giovanini

I appreciate the recommendations, everyone. I have a neurosurgeon appt with the guy that is said to be the Best in Texas.. I'll be reaching out to Dr. Watkins for a 2nd opinion as well.

So sorry for your pain. Hang in there

Jesus, dude. I’m sorry for your losses. I’ll quit busting your chops. Hope you find some relief for your back. I have a herniated L4/L5 from a car accident in 2016. I mostly live pain free right now but I’ll be going down the same road as I age. Hope everything turns out for the best for you and your family.

You goddamn pussy.

If you really cared you would troll him harder because it will distract him from his pain.

Dude, do not get the back operation unless you have absolutely no other like you cant ****ing walk option. The better half is having her third back operation within the calendar year this coming friday... Do Not Do It.

and gronks spinal dr is this guy

Eesh. Only thing that helps me when it gets bad is down on the floor with thighs perpendicular to the floor and calves resting on something parallel to the floor. Then there's the breathing that goes with it. All those muscles freaking out never get a break, they get used to breath. You can take lots of the heat off them paying attention to how you are breathing. Cue up the lamaze jokes please...but the **** works.

I have some psiatic issue, poke me in the right spot and I twitch. Nothing to worry about, right? Not getting an MRI, don't want to know how bad it is unless it doesn't get better with warm weather. Cortisone is a degenerative temp fix. Winter makes it worse. Suspenders > belt. Lose the booze. Lose weight. Core work-outs. Resistance is better than free-weights for us. Not saying you're some drunk slob, just a listing things that will typically help anyone with a back issue.

Spent a few months laid up when it happened a few years ago. Bent over to pick up a 5 pound box and something went. 5 pounds, lol. Couldn't believe it.

Good luck! I hope you have some good support through all this.

Anyone who thought 2020 would get better when she was old enough to buy her own drinks was kidding themselves.

the Patriots chiropractor is Dr Michael Miller. At least up until last year. He may have retired. His office is in Norwood. Google Michael Miller Chiropractor. I've walked into his office crouched over not being able to walk straight up and in severe pain with my lower back. And then I walked out upright. Dr Miller has definitely worked on Gronkowski and every other Patriot player. The guy is very good and I believe if you call you can get an appointment

@DaBruinz
I would recommend exhausting all other avenues (rehab/PT, acupuncture, etc) before submitting for another surgery. Subsequent back surgeries (well, all surgeries) get more and more complex with greater risks. The "best" doctor/surgeon isn't always the answer.
...and this is coming from a doctor. Good luck to you!
