Maybe the you-just-didn't-think-they-were-good-enough-to-go-this-far Patriot's mojo of their first SB win has been returned via Yahoo's surely misguided Jason Cole,"...this is just not the year for the Patriots." They are, according to Cole, "an afterthought."

I betcha barrel of Sarah Palin's dried salmon that Peyton Manning would recoil in PANIC were he to read these words!

3. So, the Patriots are really dead, that’s what you’re saying?

For the time being, New England just doesn’t have what it takes to post one of those interesting upsets, like it did in 2001 at Pittsburgh on the way to its first title or in 2006 when it beat San Diego and came close to beating Indianapolis. The last blow was the injury to wide receiver Wes Welker, who is expected to miss the playoffs with what is believed to be a torn ACL in his left knee. As well as rookie Julian Edelman has played, he’s not good enough to replace Welker on a full-time basis, and anybody who plays the Patriots will now be able to focus completely on Randy Moss. Combine that with a mediocre defense, almost zero ability to win on the road and this is just not the year for the Patriots.

Doesn't sound that different than what about half of those that comment on this board are saying. I doubt there's very many in the national media that are predicting the Pats get to the AFCCG, much less the Super Bowl right now. Then again, it's rare for anyone in the media to ever predict anyone other than the #1 or #2 seed to win in February.

Almost nobody predicted 2001 either ... we were happy just to get to the semi's ... then happy to get to New Orleans ... and then elation.

If I were an expert ... I wouldn't put us at the top either ... maybe not even in the top 4. But everything can come together starting Sunday and it's going to be a great ride. We have nothing to lose which is right where we need to be.

You can't really argue with anything he says in this article.
Its pretty much the truth.

the defense is mediocre and inconsistent

Losing welker is a huge blow as the offense was so dependent on him

Brady has been inconsistent and has thrown some very un Brady like pics this year

Anyone picking them as realistic dogs to win the super bowl or even get to the super bowl is pretty much fooling themselves

The guy writes for Yahoo! Sports. I'm sure he's already ecstatic that his article was linked on a fan message board....

you realise he had broken finger and ribs right?

Can't really say that I can argue with anything he said. I just hope the Pats can prove him wrong.

BS. Go root for the Colts or the Chargers. By God, why even play any more games if the AFCCG is a foregone conclusion?

I love how Cole qualifies every thing he says with "For the time being...." WTF does that mean? That if the Pats beat the Ravens this weekend, then throw everything you just said out the window?? Cole is a Moron.

Yahoo! Sports is not exactly the JV league anymore... HTH.

Either way... the guy is right. Hard to argue with anything he says there.

I think when you have a year when 2, 7-8 teams are in the hunt on the final sunday and then two 9-7 teams make it, all bets are off. I don't particularly like our chances, but when I look around I don't see a clear cut favorite? No one else does either....

Personally, i like it that everyone is giving us no chance. There's no pressure at all. There's nothing to lose. And the victory will be even sweeter.

This is true. There have been flavors of the month or even week, but not after the last couple of weeks...LOL

cole is actually decent and has favoured the pats quite a bit . he got a great 1:1 interview with BB earlier in the year which would mean he has some +ve vibes in the org. All his points are true at this moment. who knows whats next

Yeah but right now he's not saying good things about the Pats, so he sucks.

Actually no.

The problem with the "doubters" is the inconsistent, clueless nature of the your arguements.

Our defense sucks...... OK.... well who exactly is "good"? San Diego? Indianapolis? Baltimore? New Orleans? Minnesota? The jets have the best raqnked defense. i guess we can't beat them.

Our offense sucks because Brady locks in on Moss and Welker.... except now all is lost because Brady no longer has his binky in Welker... which was causing the offense to suck in the first place and they didn't play "2004" offensive football but now they can't win because they have to go back to "2004" football.

If your going to critique, shock us with some insight. Stop meeting our expectations.

Yeah but right now he's not saying good things about the Pats, so he sucks.

I don't give a monkey's *** what he's written about us in the past, that was just a stupid piece. "For the time being........[the Pats aren't dangerous]" Huh? Care to elaborate on what you mean by "for the time being", Jason?

Jeez, just because he agrees with your pessimistic outlook and has said "nice things" about BB in the past doesn't mean he's not a dimwit.

you realise he had broken finger and ribs right?

What's you point? If Brady is not playing at a high level we're not likely to go that far in the playoffs.

Yeah but right now he's not saying good things about the Pats, so he sucks

So you'd rather have people make up nonsense to make you feel good than to simply speak the truth?
