They really haven't let Mac run play action all year. Vikings game was the only game they gave him PA. For whatever reason they don't want to, Zappe ran it like 40% of the time he was under center.
This is purely my guess but maybe because Mac is panicky in face of rush he does not see coming? Play action requires to put your back to defense longer and runs risk of getting a runner in your face as you turn to pass.
Nothing else makes sense. With our great running game we should be running play action on half the passing plays.
