I wonder what happened to Former Bear, OLB/DE Willie young. He's getting old, like 32, and had a season ending bicep tear last season, but before that, he was having a great season. NFL 1000 had him at 17th for OLB's on the season, even though he only played 4 games . Been a consistent 7-10 sacks a season guy for about 4 years before that. Prefers to play in a 4-3 but has done well in the 3-4, seems like a versatile veteran BB might like

Just doing work on vet minimum players who have upside, and could be brought in for at least the 90 man.

Just sign all of them using the Broncos way of creative accounting.
Broncos do it, caught twice---penalized loss of 3rd round pick, twice and nearly $1m fine twice.
If Pats got caught--Penalized loss of every draft pick until 2025 and $1B fine.

In theory they could free up 3 million-ish in cap space by cutting Chung I think.

Only about $2.5M net. Not a good idea, though.

If you're signing a top safety, better to keep Chung and bump a safety off the bottom. Perhaps someone with the initials J.R.?

I wasn't being serious about cutting Chung. As for Richards, this guy should be cut in any case. He sucks.

I wonder if that would make Chung expendable. He's still great but getting up there in age.

Regardless, they'd need to shed some cap space, presumably with a Brady and McCourty restructure, coupled with the release of a guy like Allen who I think they could bring back.

Probably better to keep Chung and bump Richards back to ST/ELEO-reserve (extinction level event only).

With Solder gone, I wouldn't risk another accomplished blocker like Allen on the open market. Whoever fills in at OT is definitely going to need his assistance. Could probably reduce Allen's cap hit by $2.5-$3.0M with an extension restructure.

Also, extending Gronk another two years by converting his 2018 & 2019 salaries into guaranteed money via a new signing bonus could reduce his cap hit by around $3.5M per season (for the next two - "balloon payment" in 2020).

Only Preston Brown is still available from my wishful list.

Can still get Mychal Kendricks for less $ from eagles for a late pick. I'd be all in on him. Still have $10mm in CAP for Flemming/Waddle and Castillas.....maybe Crabtree?

Two LB's, an OT and a Danny replacement who runs good patterns and is younger. And is fiesty.

With Shelton and McCourty and those above, we have a better defense than 2017.

Suh to visit Saints tomorrow

Close him Bill
I like what the Saints are doing

Since we've been such good trading buddies with CLE, why don't we just throw them like a 2020 7th for Joe Thomas rights. Who know, maybe we can convince him mid season to come back and play, let him have half the season off. lol

I forgot about Kendricks. Yeah, he would be desirable LB. But do you think 10 mln. $ is enough to keep Waddle/Fleming,grab Kendricks,Casillas and for instance Crabtree ( to me he is a typical outside WR ,not slot receiver )? I not so sure.

I feel like we are saving our cap for something big coming All the moves we have made our low cap hits solid moves.

Yeah, this is the Patriots' MO, I'm really not worried. They'll make some value deals over the next week or two. In an ideal world I'd have liked to see them upgrade at LB and keep Solder, but with money being a factor and their cap space being where it is I'm content to reserve judgment until the full picture is in place.
