Don’t think Jason is.

Guy played well last year. Could be a good starter opposite Gilmore next year if we bring him in.

Agree.

The only question is about how adept he is in man-coverage. IIRC, he's played in primarily zone schemes his entire career.

This is really strange - nothing from the pats so far.

I gotta think Jmac signs here if we offer him a reasonable deal. He’s been on the field for at least one of our Super Bowl wins (I believe 49). He's played for bad (and the worst team ever) to mediocre teams his entire career.

His contract for the Browns was $3M/year. Certainly seems affordable.

No he hasn’t.
He may gave lined up in a position in a weird alignment where someone decided to call him a LB. 5’9 186lbs players are not linebackers in the bench under and circumstances.
It’s not me “deeming” anything it’s fact and reality.

DMC is 5'10" and 195. 5 lbs heavier and 1" taller than the Badger and he plays in the box quite a bit in our packages or heavy nickle. So in essence DMC is a hybrid LB. I will step out on a limb here and say that the kid who is 6 years younger, more play making ability, and much better in coverage would have been a wonderful addition to our SB52 line up without Butler. Not asking for one or the other but both. With Rowe and or J.Jones in 2018 we might have fixed our back end. Add Jason? I would consider that as well.

I can’t help it if soneone thinks a 5’9 186 lb player can play lb.

I understand your point.

It is just that it seems like others are referring to e.g. a DB who lines up close to the box in a few packages as LB. Which is nonsense but all this arguing about terminology is just annoying.

On Jmac? It's only been about an hour since his release.

I think people want their splash signing and keep ignoring the trade for Shelton which imho will be difficult to top this offseason.

I’m not arguing.

LOL stop. Because he doesn't fit your bill of what a prototypical linebacker should be, doesn't negate the "fact and reality" that he played and took snaps at that very position. You love to cherry pick your arguments with personal opinion to try and prove your correct. You're not.

He took many, many snaps at outside Linebacker. That is a fact. Once again pal, just because you personally think the particular defensive alignment he played in was weird, doesn't negate the fact that he's played there and is something he's excelled at.

Your personal opinion on what you think a linebacker should be is completely irrelevant. If Belichick think he works there personnel wise, he'll play him there. Stop quoting me with what you think. I don't care, at all.

No he is not a linebacker.

If you take a linebacker out and put a safety in and he plays in the box it’s a nickel and he is a DB.
Plus the discussion was we already have 3 safeties who play these roles.

No brcause he doesnt for ANYONES definition of a linebacker. It’s ludicrous to even suggest.

He did not pkay many snaps at OLB. You are wrong. I’m done going over this because you simply gave no clue what you are talking about.

With the Eagles playing positionless football, wouldn’t be surprising to see more of this.

That's actually a couple-three million more than I thought he'd get. The Shelton trade just keeps looking better.
It might look even better when Sheldon shows his consistency on the field.

I DO NOT CARE THAT YOU DON'T LIKE TO LABEL HIM A LINEBACKER. GOOD, DON'T. DOESN'T MEAN HE CAN'T PLAY THAT POSITION.

Mathieu can and has played safety, corner, slot corner, outside linebacker, can blitz and do many other things on defense. Hybrids are a part of the NFL, get acquainted with it.

Stop quoting me on semantics of a term of position. It's absurd nonsense that's derailing free agent discussion.
