I think he’s at least earned a chance. He should have been playing all year and then we would know a lot more.

I do agree size is a concern. Can he overcome his lack of size? Maybe, maybe not but that remains to be seen.
Arm strength is close to average and better than Jones. Imo nfl calibre if on the low side.
He’s 6’1 and he has made some amazing throws….Drew Brees was shorter and obviously did very well in NFL….Williams is also 6’1 albeit with a stronger arm….but is everyone concerned with him being 6’1? Doesn’t seem so as he is still projected to go 1st or 2nd

Is Zappe the 2nd coming of Brian Hoyer??
He might evolve into a great backup...
The play calling by "offensive genius" BOB still sucks.. one might think that would focus on the run less after the 3 and out after 3 run plays.. with such a makeshift O line need to be really creative, not predictable.

Now look at taking at 2nd through 7th QB. It's like panning for gold. You can count the successful ones on one hand. Purdy, Dak, Hurts, how far are we going back?
You are right ….hitting on a franchise QB is extremely difficult….finding a Brady or Mahomes is like hitting the lottery…almost impossible!

Still don't think we should be sleeping on Nix. Feck me, the draft nicks sold us on Goff and Wentz as generational i.e. look beyond the top picks and what Kiper and his ilk will ram down your throat.
I’m interested in Ewers and McCarthy too.

Hitting on Brady was winning the lottery. Hitting on Mahomes was not. He was taken 10th in the draft. The Chiefs had him rated highly and traded up to get him.

Classic Bill win.

We were down to our 6th CB, missing Henry and JuJu, and we pull it out with some clutch defense, clutch QB play and a clutch kick.

If only Zappe started all year, smh.
BB couldn't bench Corky Jones because of where he was drafted.

I am believing more and more that Kraft was the one behind the move to keep Corky as the guy. Germany was where Kraft finally came to the realization that Corky will never be an NFL franchise QB.

The funny thing is people are crying because we’re not tanking, but if you read the “which qb should we take??” Thread, everyone has different ideas about the top 3. All 3 will be available at the 5th pick unless there’s a trade and the patriots can match any trade because they have the 5th pick
A spot where BB likes to pick.

I keep wondering if Chicago will really go for a QB if they win the remaining two matches which has a decent chance of happening.

They might roll with fields for another year which might cause a domino effect.
Every team has the option of trading picks. The ‘team in slots ahead of us’ means very little on draft day. Desperate teams will move up if they fall in love with a qb.

Yep, I hate to say it (even though I’ve been saying it since last year), not starting Zappe in that Bears game last year is Belichick’s worst decision of all-time. I don’t want him fired, but I would say I wouldn’t necessarily disagree if you told me you were firing Belichick because he gave Mac Jones legitimately the longest leash of all time.

Mac Jones has literally sent this franchise into a tailspin.

-There is zero doubt had Zappe started the Bears game and moving forward we would have made the playoffs last year. We would have won at least one of the Vikings, Bengals, or Raiders games.

-Destroyed Patricia’s reputation and cost him his job. People forget the offense looked good last year when Zappe got the start.

-Cost us at least being in the competition for a playoff spot this year.

-Ultimately, and most importantly, Mac Jones is apparently going to cost Bill Belichick his job.
And the Truth will set you free.

Good post. Patricias rep has been rightfully restored. NFL teams know what Corky Jones is. I don't believe that BB will lose his job because he has wanted to get rid of Corky for some time, but Kraft was not on board.

Mac costing Patricia his job/reputation is one of the worst takes ever i.e. something I'd fully expect you to endorse.

Have the rest of the day off.

Great game Zappe, love the footwork in the pocket and the dare I say it Brady poise in the 4th quarter! You did not melt, you stood in there and made clutch throws! Every week you are getting better, making better decisions and good fundamentals!

It’s not hyperbole to say barmore has been the best DT in the NFL since week 6. He’s an elite run defender and might reach double digit sacks. The pats have two blue chips on defense longterm with him and gonzalez.

douglas has had a very good rookie season on a dysfunctional offense. Being the most productive rookie WR in the BB era is nothing to sneeze at.

As someone who’s recognized the value of a top 3 pick for awhile it’s tough that the pats are likely out of the running. Zappe has a 90+ passer rating as a starter and a winning record with a mediocre supporting cast. Depending on how he finishes the best longterm move may be to draft OT in round 1 & acquire more talent on offense. I’m not arguing that zappe is the longterm answer but bolstering the talent on offense will increase the next QB’s chances of success atleast.

Patriots defense is too good for them to get a top 3 pick.
Zappe really showed poise tonight, kudos to him.
Happy for Ryland.

It's a good draft, but I doubt Pats get their franchise QB. They may not even be in a position to get Joe Alt.

I am stunned by how awful the broncos were tonight on both sides of the ball. They could not get any pressure on Zappe, which I believe is why they lost the game.
did you watch the first play

I was skeptical but no question Zappe is a solid backup in this league.

Can he start? Of course but he's not going to get the team to where it needs to be

This is where I am. The Zapp can perhaps be a 9-8/10-7 type of QB. However, we need to aim for a 14-3 type of QB. No issue with Bailey competing for the starting job but he needs serious competition.

Stop with the silly excuses. Bill has always made the roster decisions and Jones is a perfect example of one of his picks. He came from his pal Saban.
