Official 2018 Draft Day Three (Rounds 4-7) Thread

Acquiring 2 high picks next year is no accident. There are 2 possible reasons.

He is planning on using some of those chips to trade for defensive vets who will help immediately.

Or he is stockpiling to target the heir apparent in next year's draft.

I'm not sure which option I'm rooting for, to be honest.

If I could give this draft a grade lower than an F, I would. F minus ? Or maybe an F and an Incomplete ? Just a disgrace. Did we trade down with Cleveland for an extra 8th round pick ? I wouldn’t be surprised (there is no 8th round).

My beef's the lack of defensive players. Duke Dawson? It's ballsy of belichick but costly if a guy like high doesn't stay healthy again.

I don't mind the trades too much but I'm just a little nervous about depth on D. Between last year and this year we've made 7 picks in 10 rounds. Not the best way to restock a team on the cheap.

Through trades and FA signings, the Pats have already added 11 new experienced NFL players at an average cap hit of $1.97M. If you take Clayborn's $5.5M cap hit out, it's 10 players at an average cap hit of $1.62M.

We had our eyes on Evans.

As an Alabama fan I have watched Evans plenty and I think he will be a great pro and would have been a great Patriot.

However, I think that with a 41 year old GOAT QB who has simply been hit too many times the last few years, I actually like the Wynn pick even more under the circumstances. In addition to Wynn, adding Brown and a great pass blocking (and receiving) running back, who will hopefully improve our running game? Even better.

...By protecting Brady better and occasionally running the ball maybe he will still be playing at 45, and probably still winning Superbowls.

The team basically announced that they were done after trading up for our DB. After the pick they announced a press conference to discuss the draftees.

Can't believe that bill wanted to draft him at 43. Duke Dawson.

Jesus next year has a ton of guys w/ baggage to say the least. Looking at about 20 different arrest or some stupid **** someone is doing. Reakwon Davis shot himself. Finley, Francois have had runs in w/ police & a lot more.

quite a Spartan approach to the draft - it's all good...

I see you have mastered time travel technology and have seen the future injuries of Danny Shelton, Jason McCourty, Adrian Clayborn, Jonathan Jones and Donta Hightower. None of them were in the Super Bowl and thanks to your advanced and superior understanding of time and space, we now know that none of them will be available this year.

You should immediately transport yourself to Foxboro to let Bill "I'm a big idiot" Belichick know about these injuries.
Patriots will be winning games next year if the offense scores in the high 30's or 40's every game. Belichick wasted pick #23. He could have had Wynn at 31 and Michel in the 2nd round. They never traded UP to get that athletic LB in the 1st round and that screwed up this entire draft.

Bill hated the draft last year as well. I wonder if he will hate the draft next year as well.

The truth? I'm starting to believe that BB is taking those reports that the practice changes have stunted rookies, so he's looking for Day 1 potential starters, then collecting draft capital to go get the Ealys, Van Noys, Trent browns of the world, or for trade ups when he needs them.

Being a fellow Bama fan. I'm pulling for a Shaun Dion Hamilton addition. Could be a sneaky good pick up this late. Also a BIG Levi Wallace fan.

I am guessing this draft will give us Wynn, Michel, Dawson, a couple low round picks, and a few veterans traded for before/during preseason. Admittedly, that's not that bad - you drafted 3 guys who can actually start (or compete with the starters) as well as the capital to grab other starter-grade vets.

I said several times prior to the draft that I didn't see much room on the roster for rookies. In fact, one of my projected roster builds only included three draftees -- I expect we'll pick up some guys in the later rounds, but so far this approach makes sense to me.

This draft is really lacking on instant gratification but, man, next year's *should be fun.

Plus, with the trades they've made, especially for Shelton, and the IR players retuning hopefully healthy, the D should be improved.

2019 NFL draft. Can't wait to see a repeat of the the 2018 NFL draft. Bill will say the hell with this draft and trade the picks to the following years until they trade the picks to acquire Trevor
Lawrence from clemson as the heir to tommy Brady.

Yeah, I remember doing a mock then trying to slot them in and it was tough, had to cut good enough rotational vets for like 3rd rounders. Roster is pretty good and after the 2nd round or so it's tough to find obvious upgrades.

Lawrence has time but he better quicken that release of his.
