Could be a solid pickup............maybe

I don't think this guy has a position in the Belichick 3-4. He's a Tampa 2 Mike.

That, and despite BB's feigned interest in him before the Draft he is S-T-U-P-I-D. That would make him a poor fit as the Mike or Jack in the Pats 3-4.

Camp body. If he F****'s up he's cut. Veteran minimum with incentives. If he can't pass the smell test, what did he cost as a camp body?

I think he is worth a shot, he has o.k. size, very young(for us)

Age: 24
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 235 Lbs

ESPNInsider had him rated as a top 5 LB before the "issues"

So I say what the hell, almost no risk very high reward

Odell, say hello to the Toronto Argonauts. Welcome to your indefinite suspension from Goodell's new NFL. Looks like he failed a substance policy, not good.

All of you idiots that advocated bringing this loser on the Pats should take turns kicking each other in the ass. That guys is an idiot.

Because we all knew he was still abusing substances upon his release.

His past was screaming that he would screw up again. There are certain types of players that are untouchables. i.e. Chris Henry and Pacman. You stay clear of those types. They will never get it. If a guy like Pacman doesn't turn it around, which I don't think he can, he will meet a violent end. That much is clear.

Odell Thurman is a waste of talent and sperm. If you can't make it with the Bungles who had no LBs last year, why the heck do I want him on my Patriots? He should never be allowed in the NFL again. Ever!!!

Uhh, thanks, I'm good. did you ask the 'Boys?

When he was released he hadn't been in trouble with "substance abuse" in over a year. Forgive us for considering someone who has had troubles in the past and who (at the time) looked to have been over it.

I don't want him on the Patriots now, but that's because he very obviously doesn't have his head on straight. Had he been clean, I don't see a problem with taking a player who has struggled with addiction - because sometimes people do clean up.

It's okay, though, for some people everything is black and white with ninety degree angles and proper labels... "waste of sperm" or not.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda.......Man, just admit you were wrong. It's not the end of the world. The guy was not clean coming out of college, had a very good rookie season, then hasn't played a down. Stop trying to sugar coat it.

Before, I could care less if a camp body had a record. Now with Sherrif Goodell crazily holding teams responsible for the off field activity of their players, I'd rather some other team be made an example of, thank you.

No we don't know the specifics. Is over due library books a first round choice or all your draft picks? Let the Bengals be the test case.

So the part where the Bengals, who hold their players to no standards, decided he wasn't worth the trouble wasn't factored into him looking like he was over his past troubles?

If you haven't already, actually read my original post on the matter. You'll see I was not trying to sugar coat anything. Hindsight is twenty/twenty so of course looking back now at what I said one can say it was wrong although I thought I explicitly said "as long as he is clean."

It was reported everywhere that the Bengals released him because he missed voluntary workouts as a result of attending the funeral of his grandmother, the woman who raised him.

What part of that says he is a troublemaker?

The Bengals are a crap organization, why would the decisions that they make reflect what a well-oiled franchise would also do in the same situation? "Even the Bengals don't want him." Well, maybe the Bengals don't have any idea what the hell they are doing.

I take it you two were opposed to Randy Moss because he had a history of creating trouble (a longer history than Thurman) and wasn't wanted on a terrible team?

He would come DIRT cheap and would be great in the inside linebacker position....one more quality ILB would give us IMMENSE depth.

To all those that would say no due to his past problems should remember that peer pressure can also make you an model citizen.
I gotta call BS on this one, guy.

A competitive guy in a losign situation is one thing, a guy locked in the wrong system is one thing. These guys didn't change, they just got to a place where they fit. THurman fit just fine where he was. He ain't gonna change because he's with a new team.

There are a ton of chemistry-destroying players along the likes of Laurence Philips who did not change when they changed teams. I cannot thing of a single turd who became a model citizen by changing teams. Perhaps you could list a few for us.

It was only a matter of time before a clueless someone made this clueless comparison. I'm surprised it took so long.

Instead of calling me clueless why don't you explain why you think it is so?

The multiple drug suspensions say he is a trouble maker. A 2 time drug offender getting cut in May is a major red flag for anyone paying attention. Talented players don't just get cut in the summer.

He was no more cut for missing workouts than Travis Henry was. He was cut because the Bengals knew he was using again. Teams can't say they cut a guy for drugs without violating the CBA.

Instead of calling me clueless why don't you explain why you think it is so?

Maybe it has soemthing to do with Randy Moss never being suspended as opposed to Thurman's two season suspension? Or that Thurman had trouble on an 11-5 team that some were picking as a Super Bowl favorite, not a team like the Raiders? Or maybe that Thurman was cut and Moss never was? Is that enough reasons that your comparison is apples to oranges?
