Ocho Cinco Next?

After the release of Bodden today.....how far behind is Chad?

Pats need to make room on roster for Faulk,Deaderick,Brace and Cannon ( If they all are activated soon)..

Any guesses which players are cut/waived/IR'd to make room....
Ocho should have been first, or at least before Bodden.

Bodden was cut because he wasn't playing up to his contract. He was playing #3 WR behind Arrington and McCoutry and possibly even further then that if Dowling ever gets back on the field. He's the 2nd highest paid player on the team so he should of been playing much better.

Cutting Ocho on the other hand doesn't give you much cap-wise. As long as he doesn't make mistakes then he'll be living up to his small contract this year. His salary doubles next year so should his productivity.

One guy that should be concerned is Shaun Ellis. He is on pace to have his worst year of his career. A 2.7 million cap savings if cut, and a couple of DL coming off PUP, it might not be a good time for him to have an off day.

The only way there would be a cap savings this year is if another team claimed Ocho, Bodden, or Ellis during the waiver period. Otherwise, they are on the Pats tab for the full amount because they are all vested veterans. Any savings would be next year.

Bodden was released due to a mutual decision by the team and the player. Bodden didn't really want to be covering the star or riding the bench. The Pats didn't want him if he wasn't going to be giving them his 100%.

So you even follow football? Edelman and Price were both draft picks. What their potential was when they were drafted, only the Pats know. However, to sit there and claim that they'd have gotten more opporunity already when they have Welker, Branch, Gronkowski and Hernandez in front of them and the Pats shifted more to a 2 TE set as their base tells me you don't actually watch the games. It also tells me that your basis is fundamentally flawed.

well, the same thing basically applies to ocho as well....hes not going to get many opportunities as the #3 WR in a 2 TE 2 WR heavy offense

Ocho is without a doubt the best practice player the Pats ever had for $6 mil.

Nice to have so much depth at most positions......If only there was more quality depth at DB....

Why do people think Edleman is Welker Insurance? It's like having a vespa to back up a Ferrari. Edleman is an adequate STer and that's about it.

I have to think Bodden was either injured and was not going to contribute much going forward or - more likely - there was a problem with him buying in...

The backfield has been a REALLY weird place this season : the new starting safety is a NYJ cast-off ST on a team that seemed to be ok with "Pro Bowler" Merriweather and supposed BB fav Sanders. The CB situation has included other perceived STers backing up an arguably regressing (not my personal assessment, but) McCourty and street FA Arrington.

Shades of Earthwind and A. Hawkins.

Re : Ocho, anything is possible, but as some have pointed out - he seems healthy and by all accounts he is working hard. I just wish he'd run the right route, catch a few chain-moving passes, and get everyone to calm down.

The Pats DBs love him because they can hold him to no catches or TDs.

Does anybody know why the Browns traded Bodden after five productive seasons and why Detroit released Bodden after starting all 16 games in 2008?

The trade for a 3rd and a DT by the Browns to Detroit at least looks like value for a starting CB. But Detroit just releasing him for nothing makes little sense with the value that proven CBs have in the NFL.

Now the Patriots walk away. There's more here than meets the eye.

As everyone has said, it's not like the Patriots have depth in the defensive backfield and there is zero monetary savings in releasing him after the trade deadline. That's another thing, if this were going South when BB dropped him down the depth chart, why not trade him for a middle to low-round pick?

No one from the defense uttered a word and Deion Branch was the spokesman for the players who stepped up with the 'it's a business" party line. My guess is the players wanted him out of the locker room.

This team, especially on defense, is coming together and there's no room for a bad apple as these guys continue the toughest part of the schedule until week 11 when the teams ahead soften considerably.

I believe that the Lions back then were playing cover 2 zone and he wasn't a good fit w. them. He was more of a bump and run covering CB's and they wanted a zone coverage CB's.

Edelman flashed major skillz when Welker was out in 2009. He won't be welker, but he showed the ability to be a quality slot receiver.

I'm pulling for Chad to eventually blossom in this offense. That only would be a good thing. I don't understand why so many "fans" here are fascinated with a "death watch" on this guy's Pats tenure.

I was pretty ambivilent at best when he was signed - I didn't think he had enough left in the tank to beat guys deep but could be a good 10 yard option like he was for the Bengals last year

Turns out thus far he isn't even that - but I'm still pulling for him - in particular as a deep WR

We need someone in that role and if he can take it, I'm all for it

But I can't help but think Belichick's patience is wearing thin too

There's a vicious rumor on the net that Ocho "accidentally" bumped into Glass IR Dowling's hip thereby putting him on IR just to save himself from being cut.

that was totally uncalled for and I'm writing a complaint to the Americans With Disabilities Association asking that you be summarily executed by firing squad at dawn...no cigarette

Only Jets fans like Ray Ray and other homophobic and racial idiots at jets insider deserve summary execution.
