Which is why I don't think Mangini will make a similar mistake. That stint in Oakland has probably slowed Ryan's fast track advance appreciably.

It doesn't help that Ryan has positioned himself more as his father's son than as a Belichick guy.

I keep thinking Pees is unsigned after this year and Saban had some interest in him as his DC last year but Belichick wouldn't let him go. Can anyone confirm or deny this ?

Regarding Pepper, I'm not sure Belichick would hand the reigns over to him yet. Rob Ryan would seem like a possibility, did the Raiders fire the whole staff or just Turner ?

Ryan has not been fired, but his contract was allowed to expire. According to ESPN, the Jets' expectation is that Ryan would serve as Mangini's DC.
