I sure hope that a losing team with a first year coach doesn't do something similar. There are a lot of coaches in the NFL who will be bankrupted when they have to write a $500,000 check.

More than that. Let's see if the new NFL Fuhrer has the balls to take away Rd1 pick in the future from the doormats like Cardinals

There will be some other rule infraction in the future, guaranteed. So the precedent is you lose #1 pick

Goodell is just turning himself into a hypocrit or a liar or both. He claims the punishment is worse than a suspension. You can't fine any one more than $500K and there are much bigger rules that have been and will be broken again. Where the hell do you go from there, it's a no-win situation now

If we miss the playoffs we dont lose a #1. So it wouldn't be a double standard for a bad team not to lose a #1. It's more of a pick position, points kinda thing

Yeah, that part was mildly clever of Goodell or whoever thought it up for him. "A first if you make the playoffs, a 2nd and 3rd if you don't" is a smart definition for a certain level of punishment.

This is quite independent of whether that level of punishment is in any way appropriate ...

I agree, I believe the punishment was so high because Goodell A) didn't want to suspend BB over something this stupid and B) needed to come down harsh as the integrity of the league started to come into question by the masses who took this story and spiraled it way out of control. Also Goodell needed to come down hard because it was a violation of a rule that was clarified just 3 days before. So an example had to be made of a direct defiance, at least in his eyes I believe. Had this issue stayed within the league, or not been such a big story, I think the penalty may have been a lot less. Then again, maybe not.

NFL, aka NPL (National Parity League) has many teams which are doormats one year and playoff bound next.

Bottom line, the rules mean you lose 1,2 or 3 for "breaking the rules", regardless the rule. You break a rule, and if you somehow make it to the playoffs, forfeit your #1, else you forfeit 2 and 3.

So, it all comes down to breaking rules. So if a team breaks Cap rules by $10k, then same punshment should apply.
