Whoa, back up. I thought MTV began its descent into disgrace with Real Word/Road Rules and other things that weren't about music. And recognize the fact that rap is as diverse a genre as rock. You've just insulted groups like A tribe called Quest, Public Enemy, Arrested Development, The Roots, Beastie Boys, Hieroglyphics and Run DMC, among others.

I had forgotten about the Real World/Road Rules shows. What a colossal pile of garbage they are. And just when I had hoped that MTV was making a comeback through grunge, ska, Remote Control, etc...

I saw Run-DMC at the Channel in Boston, not long after "Walk This Way" with Aerosmith was released. They didn't appear on stage until almost 1AM, and then played for barely more than half an hour. Disappointing.

The Beasties take rap lyrical meter and surround it with rock/metal instrumentation and melody, e.g. "Sabotage". Plus, they play many of those instruments themselves.

Two other bands that choke in their own rap vomit are Anthrax and, especially, Rage Against the Machine.

p.s.: That espn's Bill Simmons knows so much about the Real World/Road Rules shows is truly embarassing, as a fellow Bostonian. He's almost as metrosexual as that effete scumbag New Yorker Greenberg. And his hockey takes, like Greenberg's, are condescending and insulting.
