Nfl is planning new spring league

I get that the default is to hate everything the NFL does and I'm right there with you - but a developmental league made up of rookies who didn't get drafted is something I'd really like to see, both to watch as a spectator sport and because if any team in the league would take advantage of the additional scouting opportunities it would be ours.

I'm interested in seeing what the NFL's idea is going to be since this is some other rando's.

An NFL minor league that played concurrently on Fridays during the season would be fine. But this is just another attempt at the UFL or whatever that garbage was that gave us a team with Eric Crouch, Troy Smith, Maurice Clarett, Chad Jackson, and Sam Aiken.

Wes Welker to dominate this new league ... until the championship game where he'll drop a game clinching pass.

Not sure there is much interest in a league for broken down veterans, but a developmental league may be a thought. Kids are increasingly wondering why they are putting their NFL futures at risk by playing in college for virtually no compensation. The situation with the bowl games is the tip of the iceberg. A league where kids could play before being out of HS 3 years might fly.

NFL losing ratings and $$ this year..so they come up with a new idea to get more viewers and gear sold.

More ****ty games and match ups!

How about a 12 episode series called Where The Hell IS Mike Kensil Anyways?....starring intrepid ace reporter Chris "Snorts" Mortensen?

"I got this!"

"Wait, sorry, don't have this."

Outside of the AFL, these competing leagues don't survive long, but I wish one would take hold and force the NFL to take a long look at itself and its policies. As a monopoly they feel like they can do whatever they want and to a large extent they're correct. The only thing that matters is the bottom line, so that's where the change is going to have to emanate from.

Watching more football games is NOT an item on my "to do" list.

Thanks, just notice about the news and was going to post that

I was just about to say that the NFLPA would have to approve of something like this and more games is NOT what they want.

This can't be true.

1.) The idea even on the surface is terrible. Why would a veteran want to play in the NFL's version of the NBA D league?

2.) Despite what the NFL thinks, there is no viewer demand for it. Viewership as a whole is down. Adding more meaningless games does NOT solve anything.

What about move the Browns, Jets, Jaguars, 49ers to that league?

In that sense they can replicate overseas soccer (as I'm told, I don't watch it) where teams change leagues based on how they finish.

I'd like to see 12 teams with vets and players that couldnt get on a practice squad but still have potential.
