What trade would you like to see before the 2012 season? - NFL.com

Patriots should send Vikings draft picks for star DE Allen

Even after stocking up in the draft with defenders who can rush the passer like Chandler Jones and Dont'a Hightower, the Patriots still have that need in their sub packages. I have the perfect solution: Trade for Vikings defensive end Jared Allen.

At 30 years old and coming off a 22-sack season, Allen still has game. But he might be ready to start transitioning into being a part-time pass-rush specialist, while the Vikings can slide Everson Griffen into his vacated spot. Perhaps a third- and a fourth-rounder will get the deal done, though Allen would have to renegotiate his salary. (He's slated to earn $11.6 million in 2012.) Then the Pats wouldn't have to re-sign Andre Carter to add pass-rush help, and the rebuilding Vikings would have more fuel for the future and some salary cap relief.

This sounds... conceivable!

Could it happen?

"You just had the second most sacks in a season of any player in NFL history, but we want to pay you less."

Better chance of signing up Jared from the Subway commercials

"You just played for the worst team in football, You can come here to one of the best but you have to fit into our salary structure"

See two can play at that game.

I would think the real reason this would be unlikely is that a few trades the past few years has left us short on draft picks and we all know BB loves to stockpile them. This alone is not enough but then add in the fact that Carter is on the street and could be had for a tenth of the price and put up good sack totals in less games (assumption as I dont know off the top of my head if Allen missed any action).

I would certainly welcome it but I doubt everything lines up for this one to happen. Allen needs to agree to a lot less, the Vikes need to agree to a 3 and 4 (which I would like to think they might be able to do better), the Patriots would need to be willing to give that up (not sure they would want to give up two picks instead I could see them going with one 2 instead).

One can hope but I see this as a very long shot.

Yeah, a 3rd and 4th round pick for someone coming off the 2nd best season for a pass rusher EVER....sounds fair.

On a different note, I'd also like to trade our 5th and 6th for 2 1st round picks.

Richard Seymour was traded for a first round pick at the age of 29 (turning 30) in 2009. Jared Allen is 31 this season. The proposition that the Patriots could secure his services for a couple of mid round picks would make Spielman look less than intelligent.

Imagine Jared Allen in a Patriots uniform and BB drawing defensive schemes with him on the D line........ That would be sooooooooo freaking crazy!

Third and fourth round draft picks?

In what universe would that be enough?

Where are we short of draft picks?.....don't we have 1-4 for 2013,2014?.......did BB trade away high future draft choices, when I wasn't looking?

Explain please:confused:

Yeah no. Don't want to pay him max $$

"In your dreams" would be my response to this as well

I think he means we dont have our usual 2 firsts, 2-3 seconds etc.., its been awhile since we havent had extra picks.

I think my favorite part of that is when the guy says he had 22 sacks last year and might be ready to play a part time role in subs.

there aren't enough L's and O's in the internet.

Right after we get Forte...

Will the Patriots be pairing him up with Julius Peppers?

Here is an idea. Lets trade Cunningham for Jared...straight up!
