Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?

Just because it isn't in the 'official' in-game rulebook doesn't mean it's not a big deal. Just ask Pete Rose or Shoeless Joe Jackson about that one.

I, for one, am happy that this is breaking right now. A few weeks ago this would have been swept under the rug, barely reported or discussed in the national media. But leading up to the Pats-Jets game, with everyone refocused on the Week 1 incident, it's perfect timing.

The Jets will never lose draft picks or money, in my opinion, simply because the league doesn't have a leg to stand on in this situation (no tapes confiscated). They have quotes from 'sources'...that will not amount to anything.

What WILL happen, in my opinion, is some legitimate discussion about taping in the NFL and more quotes like Jimmy Johnson's. If nothing else this will serve to paint BB and the Patriots in a bit more favorable light. Most fans (non-Pats fans, that is) will disregard this new development and continue to believe that the Patriots are the only evil, cheating team out there--because that's what they want to believe. But this will help to clear the air for rational fans and might help to allow the Patriots legacy--for this season and the past--to recover some of its glow.
Good post. Here's to hoping it will help to move the media past the Spygate stuff after this Sunday's game. Guess it's too much to ask for the return of the draft picks . . . :cool3:

Re: Newsdayid the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?

Apparently the rule states you can tape from any enclosed location with a roof. Does this mean anybody can videotape in a dome? </Brian>

Only if the crowd noise is artificially enhanced.

Re: Newsday: Jets caught videotaping last season

Odds of this story going anywhere? ZERO. Because when it gets down to it, nobody cares about videotaping signals, they only care that the Pats did it. The Jets contend that their videotaping was legal - though the cameraman was asked to be removed by the Patriots.

This is exactly right. It's only a story in the first place because everyone is scared about the Patriots dominating for the next 2 or 3 years. Otherwise, this is VERY VERY minor.

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?

You know the guy that really gets my goat in all this: Tony Dungy.

He'll knock Belichick for all this, and then he continues to employ Howard Mudd, one of the most well-known videotaper of signals ever. If this is indeed cheating, then Dungy continues to employ a guy who developed this form of cheating and sullied the game. Dungy is a hypocrite!

Is the timing of this new revelation just coincidence or planned? I actually hope it was planned to release this news immediately before the Jets game, I love the irony.

Sure seems planned to me.

Belichick just shifted the potential distraction back to the Jets side of the ledger.

Good stuff.

Co-sign. Dungy looks like a total fraud in all of this, if it weren't for the media's irrational love affair with him, he'd be exposed.

Interesting that the media excoriates Belichick for not being forthcoming with information; yet, lets much of this other stuff slide. It's obvious why Belichick is wary of and guarded with the media, as he understands their hypocrisy only too well.

I'd have to agree, definitely planned. Someone linked their post from a few months ago mentioning this exact thing. It had to be lingering in the media for a while; whoever had it (rightfully) held it until the most opportune moment. And I love them for that...as I said, if this were released a month ago the national media wouldn't have sniffed it. As it is, it fits into the biggest and most intriguing storyline of the week, so the media will gladly run with it.

Regarding Dungy, don't forget piping in sound at RCA...there's NO DOUBT in my mind that they do it, and yet Dungy continues to act as though he's the pure definition of virtue and morality. Now that this Jets thing has come to light, the only thing that would make me happier would be something big with the Colts. Maybe then people will realize that Dungy and Polian are no better than the rest of the league and, in fact--because of their 'holier than though' attitude--are much more dispicible.

Is there any doubt?

Belichick's such a swell guy. He knew his good friend Rat Mangini needed something to divert the media attention from his dismal performance as a head coach. So, being the nice guy that he is, Belichick leaked this story to the media all day Tuesday, just in time to give Rat Mangini something to talk about with the NY and national media during his Wednesday press conference and all week building up to the game. :rocker:

Notice that both Newsday and the NY Daily News stories clearly come from anonymous Patriots sources. Anybody think Belichick, of all people, doesn't know how to stoke the NY tabloid fires? He also knows the NY mentality: that this new story just makes Mangini look like even more of a Rat. Belichick just put the shiv in him.

More and more, you have to respect Belichick in that his image is so low on his list of priorities. He puts winning, the team, the NFL all far, far above it - and that's not something you can say about a lot of coaches or people in general.

This guy willingly takes beatings in the media and doesn't even think twice about it b/c he knows one instant of energy wasted at defending himself is in an instant he could've been using to prepare for the next game.

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

Why would the Pats grant permission and then confiscate the camera and ask the cameraman to leave?

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

-Newsday, NYdailynews, ESPN, Foxsports, PFT are all reporting on this story. The NYPOST thus far has not. I have long believed that the NYPost has a connection to the Jet organization, and was used by the Jets as a weapon against the Pats before and after so-called Spygate. It was the NYPost that was digging up dirt on BB's private life, and IMO this was instigated by the Jets. Notice how that smear campaign ended after "spygate". The NFL no doubt told the Jets to cut the crap.

They wouldn't - the Jets guy is full of shyt. Even if they granted permission, it doesn't matter - they weren't abiding by the league rules, if we're going to be sticklers and kill the Pats over doing one thing, the Jets should face some bad PR over doing the same thing a year prior.

If that is true, my respect for BB went up even further! Amazing and skilful work of deflection that shifted the attention to the Jets, who are now forced to respond and worse, have got their names even more sullied!!

Hopefully this removes the spotlight from the Pats players who can focus of ensuring that this does not become a trap game.

GO BB!!

It's already off the front page of ESPN, we are the only ones that "cheat".

Re: Newsday: Did the Jets spy on the Patriots, too?(Merged)

You would think with all the Sopranos culture and mafia fanboyism that NY wannabees exhibit, they would get more up in arms about their head coach pulling a Big Pvssy. Bunch of hypocrite lowlifes.

It's worse than this. Another post has a Newsday reporter talking to Holley yesterday, and by accident Holley just mentions the Jets being caught as though it's public knowledge. The reporter decides to do some legwork, and voila, you have a story. This just goes to show that there were no enterprising reporters looking at the story closely earlier in the year. All those photos of Jets cameramen on the sidelines this year were completely ignored. No one is doing any investigation at all. Pure laziness everywhere.
