#41? That number is not sexy. Whelp, It was nice knowin' ya Cyrus.

Rivers is 95, and Wise is 91....

BB straight out replaced em.

Can Cooks stay with Grogan's number into the regular season. I know WRs got some teen numbers, but I thought 17 was the lowest. That is assuming he is not listed as a QB. :)

Devin Street is the unlucky recipient of number 17, an affliction that originally was restricted to quarterbacks but now torments wide receivers.

First worn by Mike Taliaferro, it was later handed to other immortals such as Tom Owen, Jeff Carlson, Tony Gaiter, John Friesz, Dedric Ward, Chad Jackson, Taylor Price, Greg Salas, Andrew Dobson and DeAndrew White.

Depending on your age, Brandin Cooks' number 14 either reminds you of Michael Floyd, Zoltan Mesko, Vinny Testaverde or Steve Grogan.

Stephon Gilmore gets Ty Law's number 24. Dwayne Allen's #83 was previously worn by Wes Welker and Deion Branch. Lawrence Guy has Richard Seymour's #93, and Kony Ealy gets Ty Warren's #94.

14 for Cooks I somehow don't see. Apart from very poor history (maybe worse than 17 outside QBs) the shape somehow doesn't correspond w Cooks game. 20 would be perfect (not allowed) . 13 or 89 would fit nicely. Hope it changes (and not to 10).

A historical look at the uniform numbers for the new Patriots: #14, Reggie Dunn

Impressive research on #17.

On the other hand a confident player would look at it that it wouldn't take much to be the best Pats player ever to wear that jersey number.
