I think the fact that Moss hasn't stepped on the field for more than a month would be enough to cause the Jets to question whether he'll be on the field, wouldn't you?
I've got some theories about why the rumor was started but seeing as there's already doubt as to whether Moss will be a go next week, there's no need to create a rumor about a cut to achieve what's already been achieved.

With or without moss, we gonna stomp a mud hole on the JETS and walk it dry!!

JoeSixPat, I have no link--the speculation was mine alone. I think it makes a lot more sense than that the rumor came from the Pats FO. By the way, I think we may hear more dire rumors about the Pats. We are not loved around the league by other teams and GMs. But that's to be expected.

Nope I think it was just some bored journalist hoping to get attention and so he started the rumor of a big surprise cut.
How Moss' name got in there, who knows.
Well the 'surprise cut' came and it turned out to be Reche Caldwell.
Who is a receiver as well... but it's not all that surprising a cut to me.
