Moss: "I don't think they going to extend my contract here"

look, i love moss as much as the next guy, but we constantly employ 3-5 wr sets...

this means that at most hes 1/3 important to the wr corps, and 1/11 on offense

hes is an amazing asset, but NOT the type of WR to pay 10mil a year to, only a handful of wr's deserve contracts like that, and only two come to mind that i would give it to, those two being larry and andre

moss is a finesse wr, i dont want a fineesee wr, like i dont want a finese football team, like i dont want a finesse New England Patriots

i want a determined, strong, PHYSICAL New England Patriots...and moss is not that, where andre and larry most definetely are, thats why i would pay those guys, but not moss

unless moss wants to take a pay cut of what hes earining right now, he wont be a patriot in 2 years...which is fine by me....as long as we find either multiple above average wr's, or a wr similar to larry and andre

Moss would take Andre and Larry to school.

In Moss' prime- no question.

Now? Tough call with a lean towards the younger guys...

I would still take Moss..people get on him to hard, he had a solid year and played hurt. Fitz is a one trick pony, Andre is ok, but he is no Moss...IF moss gets healthy, and brady gets back to 100% true tom brady form, and suddenly its like 07 again, most of you people will swear you never said anything negative about Moss.

If you could promise me Moss' 07 production in 2010, I would take that in a heartbeat over AJ and Fitz. The problem is that you can't.

All things being equal, for 2010, I would take AJ and Fitz as they are in their mid/late 20s and Moss will be 34 at the start of the season. Production and game-breaking capability is pretty equal as well.

You can't promise anyone's production, but I would take Moss 2010 over any receiver in the NFL. Long-term you take the younger guys for sure. And I still think Moss will be a top receiver for another 2-3 years.

IMO, Randy want off this team. He wants to get traded to a team
that has a chance to go all the way.

There is a guy I know who has inside connections with the Dolphins.
He says there is something going on behind the scenes about Randy Moss
between the Fins and the PATs.
He says Moss could be a Dolphin next year.
I can not see how BB would allow him to be traded within the division but
then ... who thought Milloy would end up playing for the Bills?

IMO, Randy doesn't really care about the money as much as he does
winning a SuperBowl before he retires. Also, he must have come to
believe the PATs are not getting to the Superbowl next year.
All he is saying is to make it easy for the team to get him out of town.
If PATs trade him, then the PATs can say he was becoming a locker
room cancer and Randy's words would be proof of that.

The Patriots do not need an "excuse" to trade anyone. They don't plant rumors so that the fans will be OK with a trade. There is nothing to suggest Moss wants off the team.

BTW Milloy was cut, not traded, so where he ended up is irrelevant and out of Patriots control.

And what makes you think that the Dolphins have a better chance at getting to a superbowl than the Pats. Its it their stellar QB or the quality and depth of their WRs? Perhaps its the quality of their aging DL?

Granted the dolphins have a nice young group of DBs and an improving team, but I would question whether the Fins are ready to threaten the dominance of the Pats in the AFCE let alone the entire league

Next year, maybe. But Moss being a top-3 receiver at 37 years old?....C'mon, emoney...

Just one question. If BB really wanted to keep Milloy from ending up on
a division team do you think he could have managed that? The fact
Milloy ended up on the Bills probably meant BB didn't care if he did.
Just like he may not care if Moss ends up on the Dolphins.
( Consider BB probably thinks about 20 moves ahead of you and me when
in his right mind )

"a top" receiver doesn't have to be top 3 and he isn't 37 until 2014. He'll be a top receiver at 35.

He wanted Milloy to restructure, and he wouldn't so he was a cap cut. Obviously Milloy wouldn't have been a cap cut if he was the top safety in the league.

Saying BB doesn't care if Moss is a Dolphin is a whole lot of speculation and opinion. There is nothing to indicate to me that Moss will not be a Patriot in 2010. Assuming he doesn't show signs of hitting a brick wall, the Patriots will probably offer a respectable 2 year deal, possibly a 3 year deal with the 3rd year not having a high cap risk. At that point it will be up to Moss on whether he wants to finish it off with Brady or with more money. I think Moss would choose Brady, but that remains to be seen.

Define "top". Is top - Top 10. Top 15?

Let's roll with his. You would rather have a 35 year old Moss who for argument's sake will be a top 10 receiver than Fitz and AJ who most likely still be in the top 3?

No, sorry let me clarify. I would rather have 2010 Moss than 2010 Fitz or AJ. I rather have 2010-2013 Fitz or AJ over 2010-2013 Moss.

Just caught this in an NFP article. Guess it's about perspective?

Diner morning news: It?s tough to say goodbye | National Football Post

Winning should matter to Peppers, and being close to North Carolina will be important, considering that he has never left the state from college to the pros. So as much as getting away might be appealing, I doubt he would go farther than a direct flight to Carolina. My earlier leaders for his rights are still the Eagles and Patriots, teams that never mind paying for quality and need to add a blue chip player to their defense.

This isn't about Peppers, but it's about the idea of the Pats paying or not. I think Lombardi's note here is true and maybe our perception of a quality player along with the forecast of their decline is not as good as the NE staff's?

Maybe it's true that they're measuring Randy's decline.

Of course they are. Stats are for losers, as Bill is fond of reminding us. Seymour put up some stats in 2008. Coaches didn't even want to undertake a review of Milloy in 2002 because they assumed he was a playmaking pro bowler. Bill watches tape and he saw it differently. Moss had yardage and TD's last season. But what portion of that was attributable to his surrounding cast. His performances were erratic and inconsistent to say the least. Of late he's expanding the media's grasp of the significance of his myriad of injuries. Going so far as to characterize them as the most difficult and painful he's ever encountered and also informing us of his reluctance to take shots... Meanwhile his QB who has always done whatever he needed to to remain on the field is downplaying his, going so far as to state that IHO injuries are just an excuse for poor performance. Polar opposites who sadly attracted.

As for Peppers, no way he lands here if the knock on his inconsistent focus and lack of any real love for this game is remotely on point. Lombardi is correct that we will pay for quality talent provided those qualities include leadership and committment to the mantra that football matters. That's the foundation of the system here and absent it no talent is a fit.

Oh jeeze...you're not trying to claim that the Pats did nothing wrong or against the rules, are you?

i don't want to sidetrack this tremendous thread but no that's not what i'm claiming. i'm saying wilbon actually thinks the pats were secretly spying on secret defensive signals that were right out in the open.

back on topic, i just think randy's negotiating a little early for an extension.
