He was dead wrong when he reported that Eli had a shoulder separation and would be out for weeks. Apparently the Giants even told Mortensen to stop saying it because he was completely wrong.
Pretty embarrassing.

Chris Mortenson said tonight on NFL Primetime that many GMs around the league are upset because the Patriots won't really be punished by losing the first round pick because they'll just use the money saved in free agency. He then pointed out all the Pats FA pickups over the last few years from Colvin to AD, ETC. No need to bring up Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, Mankins, Graham, Watson, Maroney, Meriweather in the first round.
He then threw in that if they were really that smart about drafting they would have taken Tom Brady in the first round not the sixth. My jaw hit the ground and I changed channels before I could rewind to make sure it was tongue in cheek so I'm not sure but these days who knows.
I won't even get into the fact that first rounders at the bottom of the first are pretty cheap for 5 years.
Actually this whole camera gate has been a blessing because now I know who all the azzholes in the media are that can't be trusted.

This is one of several guys who was certain the Pats wouldn't be players in last years FA market because they are too cheap, which was the bash the Pats flavor of the month. So we've gone from draft wizards to FA mongers in 6 months simply because that makes people's argument. We no longer can draft apparently even though we have zero first round busts in the BB era.
He also brought up that the GMs feel it's little punishment since we already have another first. Note to league, if you trade for extra picks it doesn't equal extra punishment because you have them.

I understand he was reporting what some GMs thought but his tone was basically acknowledging their statements as fact. There is zero journalist integrity left it's all about selling the hot story.
I've been a bit more middle-of-the-road on the coverage of this issue than many here. I think while some of it has been witch-huntish, if this were the Broncos involved I'd be loving it. So I'm trying not to be too hypocritical. It's also something of a complement about how much we've accomplished over the last several years.
But the thing I have found to be the worst about the coverage is the draft-pick issue. I have no problem with anyone that wants to make a reasoned argument that the punishment does not fit the crime. If someone has an opinion that a first-rounder is not enough of a sanction for this offense, and wants to debate that, fine. I don't agree. But it's something that reasonable people can talk about. Whether more is needed for deterrence for other teams. Whether it's an adequate punishment, etc. Those are valid, legitimate topics that reasonable people can talk about.
The point that is off the charts for me is that FOR THE PATRIOTS a first-round draft pick is not enough. Because they gave theirs up this year and are a good club at drafting and acquiring free agents, the notion seems to be that they should be treated disproportionately. If this were, say, the Jets, or the Arizona Cardinals, or the Seattle Seahawks, or the Washington Redskins, everyone would recognize the forfeiture of a first-round pick for exactly what it is: A huge hammer and a major penalty. Punishing a team more than you would another team for being good is so fundamentally unfair on every level that I can't believe not a single journalist has called "bullsh*t" on this argument.
To his credit Goddell made some comments in response to the penalty-is-too-lenient crowd that he gets the point exactly, and that's all the matters. The commissioner carefully calculated what he wanted: A forfeiture of a early pick (or two), but not one of the very top picks. The decision to make it a first, if it was a low first, or a second and third, if they were higher picks, was clearly concious.
